Effective exploitation of domestic rice bran will reduce difficulties for livestock farming
Currently, our country still has to import a lot of raw materials from foreign countries to process animal feed.
This morning (February 21), in Hanoi, Wilmar Agro Vietnam Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Agro Monitor Vietnam Market Analysis Company organized a conference on "Effective exploitation of domestic rice bran raw materials in animal feed processing".
At the conference, delegates all affirmed that rice bran plays an important role in reducing costs in animal feed processing, because Vietnam is the world's leading rice producer and exporter. However, the reality is that our country still has to import too many raw materials from abroad to process animal feed. This situation is causing difficulties for our country's livestock industry.

The solution proposed by the conference is that Vietnam can use rice products such as paddy and rice bran as animal feed to reduce the import burden... Mr. Li Si Heng, General Director of Agro Vietnam Company, shared that from the fact that the company uses 100% of rice bran sources mainly from raw material areas in the Mekong Delta region to process animal feed, Vietnam needs to diversify its raw material sources such as corn and soybeans.
The livestock development strategy until 2020 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development aims to make livestock a key production sector, accounting for 42% of the agricultural sector's value structure. To achieve this goal, in the 2010-2015 period, the livestock sector will have to ensure an average growth rate of 6-7% per year.
Ms. Tran Ngoc Yen, Director of Agro Monitor Vietnam Market Analysis Company, said that this goal can be achieved if we promptly build a stable supply of animal feed ingredients.
“We must do well in the first three areas: breeding animals because we still depend on imports. In addition, we must find a way to reduce the burden of importing raw materials for animal feed, thereby reducing costs for the livestock industry. In addition, we also need to create a chain distribution system to increase income for livestock farmers.”
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, by 2020, Vietnam's demand for animal feed is estimated to be 27.4 million tons (1.3 times higher than in 2012). In 2014 alone, the converted output of industrial feed reached about 14.5 million tons, an increase of more than 1 million tons compared to 2013. Thus, with the current capacity, we will have to import more animal feed ingredients, especially energy-rich ones such as corn, wheat, and oil cake./.
