Opening direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Abu Dhabi
On October 2, Etihad Airways officially launched a direct flight from Abu Dhabi to Ho Chi Minh City, operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft with 262 seats (including 22 business class seats and 240 economy class seats), with a frequency of 7 flights/week.
Vietnam Airlines will use the VN code on its Abu Dhabi – Ho Chi Minh City route and on Etihad Airways flights from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Etihad Airways already uses the EY code on Vietnam Airlines flights from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. James Hogan, Chairman and CEO of Etihad Airways, said: Today's inaugural flight EY 441 is of historic importance as it is the first commercial flight connecting Abu Dhabi and Ho Chi Minh City. Passengers on the Abu Dhabi - Ho Chi Minh City route can enjoy the convenience of direct flights between the two cities, connecting to the airline's global network. These new flights will meet the needs of tourism, business opportunities as well as cargo transportation between Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Middle East and Europe.
To celebrate the launch of its Ho Chi Minh City route, Etihad Airways is holding a Vietnam Eats' competition. Participants can also take and post photos of their favourite Vietnamese dishes on Facebook. At the end of October, judges will select the winner from the top 10 photos voted for by Etihad Airways Facebook users and the winner will receive a pair of Coral economy tickets to Ho Chi Minh City from anywhere in the airline's network.
