Colonel Dinh Tien Quan - Director of Lao Cai Provincial Police (second from right) visits Lieutenant Doan Van Minh who was injured while searching the house of a drug suspect. |
Initial information, on the morning of June 14, Binh Minh Ward Police (Lao Cai City) arrested a number of subjects buying and selling drugs. Through the investigation, the person involved confessed to having bought drugs from Pham Thi Giang (residing in Binh Minh Ward, Lao Cai City).
At around 3:00 p.m. on June 14, Lieutenant Doan Van Minh and eight officers and soldiers from Binh Minh Ward Police arrived at Giang's residence to execute a search warrant. While the police were carrying out the necessary procedures, Nguyen Tien Thanh (born in 1976, Giang's husband) held a knife and threatened and insulted the officers on duty. While trying to persuade Thanh to drop his weapon, Lieutenant Minh was stabbed in the left chest by Thanh.
Immediately after that, his teammates took Lieutenant Minh to the emergency room and assigned someone to stay behind to continue negotiating with Thanh. However, he did not let anyone near him and fled.
After more than 3 hours of emergency treatment, Lieutenant Minh is out of danger. Doctors determined that the knife wound hit his liver and tore his diaphragm, just a few centimeters from his heart. The police officer is currently receiving intensive care.
Previously, 3 months ago, while on duty, he discovered a mentally ill person causing public disorder and "begging" tourists. Lieutenant Minh and other officers and soldiers in the task force went to deal with the matter, but the subject slashed his neck, causing blood to spurt into Lieutenant Minh's eyes, nose, and mouth. The incident caused him to be exposed to HIV and had to take medication for 6 months.
