Free congenital heart disease screening for 600 children in Quy Hop

(Baonghean.vn) - On September 17 and 18, at Doan Ket General Clinic in Nghia Xuan Commune, Bach Mai Hospital, the Central Cardiovascular Hospital coordinated with Quy Hop District to organize free congenital heart disease screening for more than 600 children aged 15 and under in 19 communes and towns in Quy Hop.

The children were directly examined and screened by 10 professors, doctors, and leading physicians from two major central hospitals to detect early cases of congenital heart disease.

Children with serious illnesses are referred for ultrasound consultation to specialized cardiovascular hospitals for timely treatment.

After screening children with congenital heart disease or heart disease of unknown cause, doctors continue to order ultrasound to initially detect the cause of the heart disease, then provide specific advice and instructions so that the patient's family knows which hospital to take their child to for timely heart disease treatment.

This is the second time in 2016 that the medical team from Bach Mai Hospital and the Central Cardiovascular Hospital has come to Doan Ket General Clinic in Nghia Xuan commune to screen for congenital heart disease in children under 15 years old.

In the previous period, more than 400 children from two communes, Nghia Xuan and Minh Hop, were also screened for heart disease, bringing the total number of children screened for heart disease in the entire district to more than 1,000. Thereby, early detection of heart disease allows timely intervention measures to help children have healthy hearts.
