Urgent winter-spring harvest, summer-autumn production deployment
(Baonghean) -At this time, all over the fields in Yen Thanh, the spring rice is ripe and golden. Farmers are urgently harvesting the spring rice and preparing the land for the summer-autumn crop.
Ms. Bui Ha in Hamlet 7, Xuan Thanh Commune is harvesting rice and said: The family grows 4 sao of rice fields, mainly high-quality AC5 varieties. This year, the weather has been complicated, the cold has lasted since the beginning of the crop, the rice has been hit by showers, the yield is 3.2 quintals/sao, which is a very good crop. At the beginning of the crop, the land is carefully prepared, lime is spread to eliminate pests and diseases. The rice seeds are purchased directly from suppliers to ensure quality. Ms. Ha's family also regularly visits the fields to get water and proactively sprays pests when they detect pests. Up to this point, the family has harvested 3 sao, and has rented a multi-function plow to cultivate 2 sao.
Mr. Le Van Hai - Chairman of Xuan Thanh Commune People's Committee said: Xuan Thanh planted 397 hectares of rice, of which nearly 100 hectares were BC15 variety, the rest were mainly pure Khang Dan variety, high quality AC5 variety and glutinous rice. This year, BC15 variety suffered a general crop failure due to grain shortage (yield 120-150 kg/sao), while other rice fields achieved high yields of over 330 kg/sao (average yield reached over 6 tons/ha/crop).
In the rice fields in Tang Thanh, people have used the KuBoTa combine harvester very conveniently. Ms. Le Huong in hamlet 1 said: To grow 3 sao of AC5 and glutinous rice, I rented a harvester and it took me just over 1 hour to harvest all 3 sao. The labor cost is 220,000 VND/sao, which is cheap because the machine both harvests and threshes, people just need to bring the rice home to dry. According to Mr. Le Van Tue - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tang Thanh commune, the commune produces 261 hectares of spring crop, of which over 90 hectares are BC15 variety, the rest are mainly purebred Khang Dan, glutinous rice, AC 5. BC15 alone had a bad crop, with a yield of about 80-100 kg/sao, while the remaining varieties have a yield of 320-350 kg/sao. Basically, the commune has planned contiguous fields, so it is very convenient to apply mechanization to production.

Mr. Dao Ngoc Hung - Acting Head of the Agriculture Department of Yen Thanh district said: This spring crop, Yen Thanh restructured 13,209 hectares of rice, of which hybrid rice was 5,000 hectares, pure rice was 7,630 hectares (of which BC15 rice was planted on 3,300 hectares). The estimated yield was 67.6 quintals/ha (a 4.6% decrease in yield compared to the spring crop of 2012).
Of which, BC15 rice variety alone was initially expected to yield 71 quintals/ha, but due to many areas having empty grains, the average yield was only 59.15 quintals/ha. Basically, other varieties still had good harvests, yielding from 350 - 380 kg/sao. The decisive factor for yield is that in Yen Thanh, the level of intensive farming of the people has been improved. The district has provided timely technical solutions, such as the structure of varieties according to each land area. In the deep areas, the hybrid varieties Khai Phong No. I, Nhi Uu 968, BT-E1, Khang Dan 18 are arranged. In the highlands, the pure rice varieties NA2, AC5, Bac Thom No. 7, DT52 are arranged. In the highlands and dam areas, the Khang Dan 18 is mutated, glutinous rice 97 is arranged, and new potential varieties such as BG1, BG6 are tested. The district encourages people to focus on using manure and NPK compound fertilizers combined with single fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) to ensure balanced nutrition.
Increase the use of organic biological products (foliar fertilizers) to provide trace elements for plants to grow and develop well. The district also focuses on irrigation, from the beginning of the season, it has focused on directing communes to mobilize forces to repair regional and field banks, focusing on dredging level III canals and intra-field canals, with tens of thousands of cubic meters of mud and soil being dredged. Thanks to proactive water sources, most rice fields are guaranteed irrigation water.
It is known that up to now, Yen Thanh has harvested over 40% of the area. As soon as the spring rice harvest is completed, people are preparing the land for the summer-autumn crop. It is expected that Yen Thanh will finish harvesting the spring rice crop around May 25.
This winter-spring crop, Anh Son district planted over 3,100 hectares of rice, of which over 85% was hybrid rice, mainly Nhi Uu 986, GS9, Xuyen Huong 178, Nghi Huong. The district organized and directed people to plant over 2,500 hectares/2,000 hectares of corn, mainly in Tam Son, Dinh Son, Hung Son, Tuong Son, Vinh Son, Thach Son... the main hybrid corn varieties in the structure were C919, NK66. In addition, people planted over 300 hectares of peanuts, sesame and sweet potatoes.
According to the general assessment, since the beginning of the season, the canals, lakes and dams serving irrigation water have been dredged and repaired, so irrigation has been proactive. The introduction of suitable rice and corn varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases, ensuring care and spraying processes suitable for local farming conditions, has minimized pests and diseases on rice, including winter-spring corn. In addition, with favorable weather conditions, the district has paid attention to the issue of sticking to the season, building a specific direction plan, focusing on rice blooming after the last cold spell, so there is no limitation on productivity...
Mr. Nguyen Cong The - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Anh Son district, commented: This year, people have a good harvest, rice yield is expected to be over 19 thousand tons, productivity is 62-65 quintals/ha (ie 3-3.2 quintals/sao), an increase of 2-5 quintals/ha compared to the plan and an increase of 3 quintals/ha compared to the same period. Along with rice, corn also has an average yield of 60 quintals/sao, an increase of 5-7 quintals/sao compared to the plan. Especially in some areas such as Tuong Son, Phuc Son, Tam Son, corn yield can be outstanding. The reason is that the corn sowing season from the beginning of the season was quickly closed, sowing before May 13, while in previous years, sowing was completed before April 16. In particular, in localities such as Hung Son, Tuong Son, Dinh Son... after the process of implementing plantations and plot exchange, the cultivated land area of each household is concentrated in 1 area, 1 plot, convenient for intensive farming to increase crop productivity, especially corn, peanuts...
Currently, the winter-spring rice area in Linh Son, Tuong Son, Long Son, Khai Son, Lang Son communes is being urgently harvested. The district's viewpoint is to direct people to harvest en masse, within the time frame from May 15 to May 25. As for corn, it is expected that according to the plan, it will be harvested 10-15 days earlier than every year, convenient for arranging summer-autumn planting such as corn, beans, peanuts and sesame on alluvial land suitable for the time frame, ensuring harvest to avoid flooding.
With great determination, farmers in Anh Son district are quickly harvesting winter-spring rice, on time, ensuring the right schedule to prepare the most necessary conditions for summer-autumn production.
