Urgently deploy response work for storm No. 10

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 29, the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control held an emergency meeting to discuss measures to respond to storm No. 10. Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting. Attending were heads of departments, branches, and members of the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control.

According to the forecast of the North Central Hydrometeorological Station, at 4:00 a.m. on September 29, the location of storm No. 10 was at about 16.7 degrees North latitude; 112.9 degrees East longitude, the strongest wind at the center of the storm was level 12, gusting to levels 13, 14. It is forecasted that by the evening of September 30, storm No. 10 will directly affect the Central provinces, especially the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue. Nghe An is forecast to be a locality greatly affected by this storm. From September 30, Nghe An sea area will have strong winds of level 9, 10, near the center of the storm will be strong at level 11, 12.

Faced with the above developments, the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has deployed many measures to respond to storm No. 10. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has issued three urgent dispatches directing departments, branches, localities and units to urgently deploy measures to respond to storm No. 10. By 4:00 p.m. on September 28, more than 4,000 fishing boats had made contact and were on their way to find safe shelter.

The reservoirs in the area are basically full and have been discharged deep at the dams of Da Han (Nam Dan), Nghi Cong, Khe Lang (Nghi Loc). The Southern and Northern irrigation companies and localities have proactively operated important drainage sluices such as Ben Thuy, Nghi Quang, Rao Dung, Dien Thanh, Dien Thuy. Localities urgently harvested early rice following the motto "green house is better than old field"...

At the meeting, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, requested agencies, departments and localities to urgently and resolutely implement the contents of the urgent telegram of the Provincial People's Committee. After the meeting, members of the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control directly went to the assigned localities to urge and direct the prevention and response to storm No. 10. Learning from the experience of the recent storm No. 8, localities need to strengthen information and propaganda work to avoid subjectivity and protect people's lives during the flood season.

After listening to the opinions, comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong requested the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue to inform localities and people about the danger level of the storm, avoid subjectivity, instruct people to cut trees, and brace houses to minimize the risk when the storm hits. Request localities to do a good job of evacuating people from low-lying areas, river mouths, sea mouths and areas at risk of flash floods, landslides, and landslides according to the established plan; organize calls for boats to take shelter from the storm, and have plans to protect the safety of the system of lakes, dams, and dykes.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and local authorities to organize a 24/7 monitoring of the storm's developments to have timely response plans. After the meeting, the Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee and members of the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control conducted inspections and directed the assigned sectors and localities to monitor and implement flood and storm prevention measures with the motto "4 on-site", in order to minimize damage, especially human loss.
