Inauguration of the Open Museum of Nature and Culture at the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of December 16, the Vietnam Museum of Nature in collaboration with the Management Board of the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve (WBR) held the launching ceremony of the Open Museum of Nature and Culture.
Attending the ceremony were Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Minh - General Director of the Vietnam Museum of Nature; Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Tri - Chairman and General Secretary of the National Committee for the Vietnam Man and Biosphere Program (MAB Vietnam); Professor, Dr. Le Xuan Canh - Member of the National Heritage Council.
On the side of Nghe An province, there were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; experts and scientists interested in the field of nature conservation and leaders of Con Cuong district.

As the 6th Biosphere Reserve of Vietnam recognized by UNESCO, the Western Biosphere Reserve of Nghe An has high biodiversity and is also home to ethnic groups: Thai, Mong, Kho Mu, Kinh, Tho, O Du with unique cultural features.
In order to popularize the values of the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve, from 2016 to 2018, the Ministry of Science and Technology supported the construction of an open nature-culture museum model. The museum was formed on the basis of upgrading the Pu Mat National Park Museum, with a modern museum approach.

The construction and operation of the Open Nature - Culture Museum will open up many opportunities for learning and researching the rich flora and fauna, protecting land - water - forest resources as well as the unique cultural values of indigenous communities in Western Nghe An.
Thereby, contributing to the development of sustainable economic and tourism potential, creating livelihoods for local people, raising the sense of responsibility in protecting natural beauty, preserving cultural identity, maintaining security and defense of the ethnic communities living in the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve./.
