Inauguration of Phase I of the National Martyrs' Cemetery, Road 9

On the evening of July 22, in Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province and the Finance sector solemnly held the inauguration ceremony of phase 1, the National Martyrs' Cemetery on Road 9. Attending were Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh; leaders of the Ministry of Finance and the provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue and many officials and employees of the Finance sector.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh affirmed that the Party, State and people will forever be grateful for the sacrifices and contributions of heroes, martyrs, war invalids and meritorious people who have sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation, construction and protection of the Fatherland. The Party and State have constantly improved and implemented preferential policies for meritorious people; together with state agencies, mass organizations and people, they have actively participated in activities to repay gratitude and care for meritorious people. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh commended the Party Committee of the Ministry of Finance, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Councils, People's Committees at all levels, sectors of Quang Tri province and all officials, civil servants and employees of the finance sector, economic organizations and individuals who have joined hands to contribute to the construction of the National Martyrs' Cemetery of Road 9. This is a great honor and a practical activity to express gratitude for the great sacrifices and contributions of heroes and martyrs who have glorified the history of the nation. The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Party Committee of the Ministry of Finance to continue to closely coordinate with Quang Tri province to launch propaganda and provide guidance for agencies, units and individuals to actively contribute to the completion of the entire Road 9 National Martyrs' Cemetery Ceremony Area. With the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", the Deputy Prime Minister called on sectors, levels, socio-political organizations, units and individuals to continue to organize many activities and practical work in response to the movement of "Repaying gratitude", effectively carrying out the work of caring for war invalids, families of martyrs and people with meritorious services to the country.

The National Martyrs' Cemetery on Highway 9 is the resting place of more than 10,000 martyrs, most of whom died on the battlefields along Highway 9, connecting the Vietnam-Laos border to Dong Ha - Quang Tri and martyrs who died on the land of Laos. Through the rain and sun and time, many construction items of the National Martyrs' Cemetery on Highway 9 have seriously degraded. With the desire to contribute a part of their efforts and show gratitude to the heroic martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the Fatherland, the Ministry of Finance has called on cadres and civil servants of the entire Finance sector to voluntarily contribute at least one day's salary each, joining hands to upgrade and build the National Martyrs' Cemetery on Highway 9 and has received the consensus and response of 80,000 cadres, civil servants and employees in the Finance sector across the country.

From the amount of more than 40 billion VND voluntarily contributed by the officers and employees of the Finance sector, after one year of construction, the first phase of the project to upgrade and build the National Martyrs' Cemetery of Road 9 has been completed with the following items: upgrading and repairing the bell tower area of ​​more than 2,500m2; building a new memorial and celebration house; upgrading and repairing the yard of the ceremonial area; installing outdoor electrical systems and drainage systems; spraying zinc on the Victory Monument, reliefs, and statue clusters in the yard of the ceremonial area; adjusting the main gate of the cemetery, etc.
