Inauguration of agricultural product preservation laboratory

On the afternoon of June 19 in Hanoi, the Institute for Regional Research and Development (Ministry of Science and Technology) in collaboration with ABI Group (Japan) organized the inauguration of the CAS (Cell alive system) technology laboratory - Technology for preserving fresh cells.

This is the most advanced technology in preserving seafood, agricultural products and food in the world, with ABI Group as the exclusive patent owner, recognized in 22 countries, the European Union (EU) and protected worldwide.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan emphasized that Japan is the world's leading country in researching and successfully applying many advanced technologies in agricultural production, especially technologies in the field of preserving seafood and agricultural products, and one of the outstanding technologies is CAS technology.

This technology has been applied very effectively in many enterprises processing and trading seafood, agricultural products, livestock meat, poultry and food in Japan, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Ireland, the UK, Korea, etc.

The application of CAS technology in Vietnam will contribute to technological innovation in the field of post-harvest technology to solve the difficult problem of developing commodity agriculture, which is preserving Vietnam's seafood and tropical agricultural products for export and to serve people's lives.

According to Mr. Le Tat Khuong, Director of the Institute for Regional Research and Development, to receive and develop CAS technology in Vietnam, the Ministry of Science and Technology has assigned the Institute to cooperate with ABI Group to implement the program "Cooperation to build a CAS technology center for preserving agricultural products and food in Vietnam" from November 1, 2012 to April 30, 2015.

The program consists of three main phases, of which phase 1 is to build a CAS technology laboratory, receive technology and research the application of CAS technology in preserving some tropical agricultural products in Vietnam.

Phase 2 will transfer CAS technology to preserve seafood and agricultural products to a number of Vietnamese enterprises.

Phase 3a and 3b will transfer CAS equipment manufacturing technology to Vietnam; joint venture to build raw material areas meeting preservation technology standards and apply CAS technology to preserve agricultural products and food for domestic consumption and export.

CAS is a technology that combines rapid cooling with the creation of an electronic field combined with ultrasonic waves to preserve fresh products, helping water molecules in the cells to disperse flexibly, not to concentrate or freeze during storage.

Thanks to this, the cell tissue structure during cold storage will not be broken, inhibiting oxidation, preventing bacterial contamination and making the product retain its aroma, flavor and the amount of water needed to keep the product fresh for a long time.
