Inauguration of the Soviet Workers and Peasants Monument in Truong Thi - Ben Thuy

(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, September 12, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee of Vinh City solemnly held the inauguration ceremony of the Soviet Workers and Peasants Monument in Truong Thi - Ben Thuy, commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the Soviet - Nghe Tinh High Movement.

The location for the construction of the Monument is the Ben Thuy T-junction area - the place marking the historic demonstration on May 1, 1930, when more than 1,200 workers and farmers from An Hau, Tan Hop, Duc Hau, Loc Da, Loc Thinh, Yen Dung Thuong villages... marched to Truong Thi Factory to protest, demanding that the owners increase wages, reduce working hours, divide land, and reduce taxes. For the first time, the red hammer and sickle flag flew on top of the Ben Thuy T-junction lamp post. The enemy suppressed the incident bloodily, killing 7 people, injuring 18 people, and arresting hundreds of others. Ben Thuy T-junction became a special historical site marking the beginning of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Revolutionary Movement. With such great significance, on November 16, 1988, the Ministry of Culture and Information issued a decision to recognize and rank the Ben Thuy T-junction Monument as a National Historical and Cultural Monument.

People from all walks of life offer flowers to commemorate the heroic martyrs.

To be worthy of being a national historical and cultural relic, on February 27, 2010, the People's Committee of Nghe An province decided to preserve, restore and build this relic site with a total cost of 45 billion VND, with Vinh City People's Committee as the investor. On April 1, 2010, Vinh City People's Committee officially started construction of the project, including many items, the most prominent of which is the Soviet Workers and Peasants Monument of Truong Thi - Ben Thuy.

The Soviet Workers and Peasants Monument in Truong Thi – Ben Thuy is made of Thanh Hoa green stone blocks, 13.57m high, consisting of 2 characters symbolizing the workers and peasants; the author is sculptor Nguyen Hong Phong, performed by famous stone artisan Pham Ngoc Hoan.

At the inauguration ceremony, delegates and a large number of people together reviewed the traditional history of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Movement; offered flowers to commemorate the heroic martyrs./.
