(Baonghean) - The weather has been warm and sunny, creating favorable conditions for spring rice to take root, recover and grow branches. Right after the Lunar New Year - 2013, farmers in the districts have gathered in the fields to take care of the rice.

In the remote commune of Long Thanh (Yen Thanh), since the 4th day of Tet, the entire field has been bustling with the atmosphere of production labor, farmers have gone to the fields to focus on weeding and fertilizing the spring rice crop in time. This spring crop, Long Thanh commune has planted nearly 600 hectares of rice, in which the main structure is purebred rice varieties, hybrid rice with high quality and yield such as: BC15, AC5, BTE1, Khai Phong 1 accounting for over 80% of the area. Although the beginning of the season encountered difficulties in the weather due to severe cold, but with the attention and direction of the district and commune Department of Agriculture, the rice seedlings were all covered, carefully cared for and developed well, ensuring that after transplanting, the rice plants, when encountering favorable weather, took root, recovered green and produced strong tillers. According to the instructions of the commune's agricultural committee, from now until February 20, people must complete weeding and fertilizing the first batch of each sao with 5-6 kg of urea, 3 kg of potassium, combined with weeding and stirring mud, early detection of pests and diseases for timely prevention.

Ms. Vuong Thi Nhi - Giap Bon hamlet, Long Thanh commune said: This crop, my family worked on 1 hectare of rice field, and finished sowing right before Tet. Due to the warm weather, there were more weeds than usual, so after Tet, we had to go to the field to focus on weeding and adding urea fertilizer to help the rice tiller strongly.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung - Head of Yen Thanh District Plant Protection Station said: Through inspection in the fields, some places have appeared brown planthoppers, white-backed planthoppers, black-tailed planthoppers, although only from 2 to 5 individuals/m2, but the Station has directed the Agriculture Department of communes to regularly monitor the development of pests and diseases to prevent them with effective plant protection drugs, not allowing them to spread into epidemics. Besides, in remote communes, many rice areas have appeared with leaf blast disease, with a density of 3-5%. In recent days, the Station has promptly provided 2 types of drugs Filia and Alita, instructing people to spray the correct dosage and technique, limiting the spread of diseases.

As an agricultural district with a total food output accounting for 1/6 of the total food output of the whole province, the spring crop is considered a sure-fire crop. Along with the application of scientific and technological measures in intensive farming, ensuring water sources, fertilizers and seeds are important factors in production. In all fields, from the dam area to the natural river area, the irrigation canal system has been invested in, upgraded, built and planned according to new rural standards, creating favorable conditions for water supply and ensuring stable production. Mr. Nguyen Cong Kien - Director of Yen Thanh District Irrigation Enterprise, said: In the 2013 spring crop, the enterprise contracted to irrigate over 9,000 hectares of rice. Due to the complex terrain, some communes at the end of the canal and the electric pump area such as My Thanh, Vien Thanh, Vinh Thanh, Van Thanh, Duc Thanh and Ma Thanh often lack water. Therefore, during the recent Tet holiday, the enterprise assigned specific tasks to 7 stations with staff on duty to protect the works, along with the grassroots irrigation teams taking turns to squeeze water sources to irrigate the rice fields, while urging people to build banks to retain water, use water economically, but not let the newly planted rice lack water.
