'Thirst' for unskilled labor
Lack of unskilled labor to meet production needs is a common situation for many businesses today. To “quench the thirst” for labor, some businesses have had to form “centipedes” in many localities hoping to recruit workers, but the results are still not very positive.

Samsung Vietnam lacks workers to meet production expansion needs |
As a large, reputable enterprise and considered one of the companies that pay employees quite attractive salaries, in the first months of 2017, Samsung Vietnam still fell into a state of labor shortage to meet the needs of expanding production and business in Vietnam. To have enough human resources, in addition to posting recruitment information on the company's official website and several other reputable recruitment websites, Samsung Vietnam had to establish "subsidiaries" in many localities to recruit workers, especially unskilled workers.
Specifically, although the factory is located in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces, Samsung Vietnam has established a network to recruit workers in 33/63 provinces and cities nationwide. It is known that the number of recruitment for all positions this time is about 10,000 workers with the standard that workers only need to graduate from secondary school or higher, with a quite attractive income, about 7.5 - 8 million VND/person/month.
Not only large enterprises like Samsung, many small enterprises also face labor shortages in the first months of the year. For example, Kyungil Optics Vietnam Co., Ltd. - a 100% Korean-owned enterprise - located in Binh Xuyen Industrial Park (Vinh Phuc Province) is also in need of recruiting 500 workers aged 18 and over. To find enough workers, Kyngil Optics has posted notices in many neighboring localities in the area where the factory is located.
Dahashi National Human Resources Company, which specializes in providing, leasing, and supplying unskilled labor and workers nationwide, is also recruiting 8,000 female workers to work in Thang Long Industrial Park, Dong Anh (Hanoi) and Quang Minh Industrial Park (Vinh Phuc). In addition, this company is also in need of recruiting thousands of unskilled workers to work seasonally for enterprises in industrial parks in provinces and cities such as Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, and Bac Ninh with an income of 5 - 8 million VND/person/month.
Working at a labor supply company in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh said: The company received contracts to recruit several thousand unskilled workers to work in factories and enterprises in neighboring provinces such as Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, etc., but despite the recruitment announcement for a whole month, there are still not enough workers to meet the demand. The reason for this situation, according to Mr. Vinh, is that the company is expanding production and business, so the demand for labor is increasing. In addition, it is also due to the situation of "job hopping" of workers after the Tet holiday.
To meet the demand for human resources, many enterprises previously only recruited workers with high school education or higher and limited their age to 18-35, but now only require lower secondary school education and require them to be 18 or older, but it is still not easy to recruit. Economic experts say that the current shortage of unskilled workers is partly due to the fact that many foreign investors come to Vietnam only to take advantage of cheap unskilled labor, so they invest mainly in the assembly sector, which requires a lot of labor and has low added value. If investment is not selective, the risk of a shortage of unskilled workers to meet production needs is very high.
