Towards the 995th anniversary of the Nghe An name (1030 - 2025) and the 95th anniversary of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930 - 2025), the Hoa Lo Prison Relic Management Board in collaboration with the Nghe An - Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum organized the thematic exhibition "Aspiration for Freedom". This is a meaningful activity, recalling the heroic history and affirming the indomitable tradition of the Nghe An people in the flow of the Vietnamese revolution.

Desire is never imprisoned

In the history of the nation, colonial and feudal prisons were once “hells on earth”, places where loyal communists were detained and tortured. Hoa Lo (Hanoi), Kham Lon (Saigon), Kon Tum, Son La, Buon Ma Thuot… and Vinh Prison (Nghe An) were all marked with blood and tears.

However, the cold stone walls and heavy iron shackles could not imprison the revolutionary spirit. From that harsh darkness, the will to fight shone brighter. The soldiers turned the prison into a revolutionary school, forging ideals, honing their mettle and nurturing the belief in the inevitable victory of the path to national independence.

Prison Breaks - Epic in the Night

The desire for freedom spurred daring prison breaks. From Hoa Lo to Cach Lon, from Kon Tum to Son La…, many soldiers bravely climbed over stone walls and barbed wire fences to return to the people and continue leading the movement.

Each prison break is not only an act of courage, but also an affirmation: No chains can restrain revolutionary ideals, no prison can prevent the desire for independence and freedom.

Vinh Prison - evidence and symbol of Nghe Tinh Soviet

The highlight of the exhibition is Vinh Prison - where the French colonialists once detained thousands of soldiers of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement. It was from here that many struggles, hunger strikes, and prison breaks took place, demonstrating the brave spirit and indomitable will of the people of Nghe An.

Vinh prison is not only a testament to the crimes, but also a vivid symbol of the people's steadfast and indomitable spirit in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement - the first revolutionary movement led by the Communist Party of Vietnam, lighting the way for national liberation.

Timeless mark

The exhibition “Aspiration for Freedom” is arranged in 3 main parts: “Chains - Wings in the Night - Timeless Imprints”. Hundreds of documents, images and artifacts vividly recreate the journey of turning prison into school, turning darkness into belief and turning aspiration into the power of action.

Stories about Hoa Lo prisoners, daring escapes from Vinh Prison… not only inspire pride, but also show that the indomitable Nghe Tinh Soviet spirit has become a continuous source, connecting the past - present - future in the journey of building and defending the country.

In the 95-year flow of Nghe Tinh Soviet, "Aspiration for Freedom" not only reminds us of the great sacrifices of our ancestors, but also serves as a message to today's generation: Let's continue the indomitable tradition, turning the nation's aspirations into concrete actions to build a prosperous and happy country.

The exhibition in Nghe An - the heroic homeland of the Soviet Union further affirms a truth: The spirit of loyalty and resilience of the people of Nghe An not only echoes in the past, but is still shining in the present and future. "Aspiration for freedom" is not only the story of those who came before, but also the flame that fuels the will for today, so that every Vietnamese person can be more proud, confident and responsible in the work of building their homeland and country.
