(Baonghean) - Surely now and many years from now, many people will not be able to forget the image of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, on behalf of the Politburo and the Secretariat, sincerely admitting his mistakes before the Central Executive Committee and requesting the Central Executive Committee to accept a form of discipline and consider disciplining a Politburo member at the closing session of the 6th Central Conference, which was broadcast by Vietnam Television on the evening of October 15, 2012. The main reason for those shortcomings was due to mistakes in personnel work and weaknesses in ideological work. At the same time, the Party was determined to "look straight at the truth, correctly assess the truth, and clearly state the truth".
The fact that the Politburo and the Secretariat admitted their shortcomings and apologized to the Central Executive Committee as well as requested collective disciplinary action against the Politburo and one individual in the Politburo with the absolute consensus of the Politburo members is the first time, unprecedented in the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The frank and open-minded spirit of our Party was also expressed by the General Secretary in his recent meeting with Hanoi voters: "The Politburo has admitted its shortcomings before the Central Executive Committee, but the more important meaning is to apologize to the people and make changes. The Central Committee has shortcomings, I hope you will support and help." Surely, when people hear such words, no one does not share, sympathize and trust more in the leadership of the Party. Because, in reality, after apologizing for its shortcomings before the people, our Party has always proposed the most correct policies; continuing to lead the country from one victory to another. It is very simple: when an organization or an individual has the courage to admit its shortcomings and weaknesses in order to overcome and correct them, that organization or individual will have more strength, prestige and position in society.
The fact that the Politburo, the Secretariat, and a Politburo member, through self-criticism and criticism, asked the Central Committee to accept a form of discipline for their shortcomings in the past is a mirror for all to see. Public opinion hopes that on this occasion, when district, city, town and equivalent Party committees are implementing a self-criticism and criticism campaign in the spirit of Resolution 4 of the Central Committee, they will not do it perfunctorily; they will frankly admit their shortcomings and take responsibility for their shortcomings in the past. Those who know how to admit their mistakes and apologize will surely have a way to correct their mistakes and make progress. And the people are willing to share, sympathize and wholeheartedly trust such organizations and individuals. The same is true for the Party and its cadres.
