Difficulty in enrollment, vocational schools sign output commitments for students

August 23, 2017 08:21

Although recruiting has been done at high schools, colleges and intermediate schools are still struggling because they cannot meet their enrollment targets.

This is the first year that all colleges and intermediate schools nationwide (except for Pedagogical Colleges) have been transferred to the direct management of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. According to many colleges and intermediate schools, this is considered the most difficult enrollment season ever.

While universities are rushing to enroll students and expand their training scale, colleges and vocational schools every year face the worry of not being able to recruit enough students. This has been a story for many years, but so far there has been no effective solution.

At this time, according to records at colleges and intermediate schools in Hanoi, school leaders are still sitting on fire because they have not seen any candidates.

MSc. Le Hong Khanh, Vice Principal of Pasteur College of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that so far, the number of applications submitted to the school is only 50% of the school's enrollment target. "The number of candidates registering is high, but the enrollment rate is still very limited. The school has called the successful candidates, but many of them have reported that they have enrolled in university. Those who scored 16 or 17 points also reported that they will wait for the university's NV2 admission results. If they fail the university entrance exam, they will enroll at the school. So far, the school has only recruited about 30% of the target.

According to Mr. Le Hong Ngoc, Principal of Hanoi Technical and Vocational College, in 2017, the school has a total of 800 quotas, including 400 intermediate quotas, 150 college quotas, and the rest are short-term primary 6-month programs. Currently, the school has only recruited about 50%.

Through surveys and reality in many localities, Mr. Le Hong Ngoc said that vocational schools are currently competing with companies in industrial parks. In fact, the number of unemployed graduates is increasing, so instead of continuing to study after graduating from high school, in many provinces with developed industrial parks such as Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, ... students tend to go straight to labor companies to earn money...

At Hanoi College of Electromechanics, there have been thousands of candidates enrolled in the first batch, however, Principal Dong Van Ngoc said that besides the "hot" majors that cannot recruit all the candidates, in the general trend, majors such as Accounting and Business Administration are still in a difficult situation of recruiting.
