Faculty of History - Vinh University: Teaching, learning and research linked with practice

(Baonghean) - In the fall of 1968, the Faculty of History - Vinh University of Education (now Vinh University) was established on the left bank of the Buoi River, Thach Dinh Commune (Thach Thanh - Thanh Hoa). Since then, after 45 years of striving, building and growing, generations of teachers and students of the Faculty of History, Vinh University have affirmed their position and achieved remarkable achievements in all aspects of work...

Born in the midst of the war, right from the day of its establishment, the first generations of teachers and students of the Faculty of History had to overcome the rain of bombs and bullets to reach the evacuation areas. Just established for 1 year, by the end of 1969, teachers and students of the faculty together went down the Buoi River, crossed the Ma River, followed the Le Canal to dock and return to Quynh Hoa, Quynh Luu (Nghe An). In 1972, when the US imperialists bombed the North for the second time, teachers and students together went to the Lang Thanh mountain area (Yen Thanh district) to evacuate.

Before they could settle down, all the students of the faculty had to cross Truong Hen, go down to Hung Xa commune (Hung Nguyen) to participate in building the 42nd Dike to prevent flooding... During those fierce war years, despite facing many difficulties, generations of teachers and students of the Faculty of History made efforts to rise up, overcome all challenges to stay in school, stay in class with the local people, both participating in the fight and competing to teach well and study well. From here, "Teaching, learning, scientific research closely linked to reality on historical sites" of the Faculty of History began to be effectively implemented and that tradition has been continued until now.

Peace returned, implementing the policy of the 12th Vinh University of Education Party Congress, at the end of 1973, the Faculty of History and the whole school returned to Vinh City to continue teaching, studying, scientific research and promoting its own identity in the new conditions.

After the Great Victory of Spring 1975, the South was liberated, the Faculty of History opened its arms to welcome its children who left their pens and sang the song of marching to battle, and returned home. But there were students who would never return. Those were the three martyrs Ha Ngoc Chuyen, Le Van Sy, and Tran Van Minh.

In the new favorable circumstances, the human resources were systematically trained. From here, the Faculty of History has had many remarkable changes. Up to now, the faculty's staff has 43 people, including 7 Associate Professors, 17 PhDs, dozens of staff are being sent by the faculty to train PhD students at home and abroad. In addition to the regular bachelor of pedagogy training system, the faculty has other majors such as Bachelor of History Science, Social Work, Vietnamese Studies, Cultural Management. The faculty has also focused on investing in postgraduate training and brought high results. From 1993 to now, 21 postgraduate training courses have been conducted, providing society with more than 800 highly qualified masters. Many PhD students are also studying two doctoral training majors: Vietnamese History and World History.

In recent years, the Ministry of Education and Training, Nghe An province and Vinh University have assigned the faculty to successfully organize and chair scientific conferences that have gained widespread reputation in public opinion such as: National scientific conference "50 years of Uncle Ho's visit to his homeland Nghe An" (2007); "Mai Thuc Loan with the Hoan Chau Uprising" (2008); "Training human resources for social work and tourism to meet social needs" (2009); "Thanh - Nghe - Tinh with 1000 years of Thang Long - Hanoi" (2010), "Historical context of Uncle Ho's journey to find a way to save the country" (2011); "Research and teaching about the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh" (2012),...

In addition, every year, the faculty's lecturers also implement and accept a series of scientific research topics at school, provincial and ministerial levels. Organize the compilation, acceptance and publication of many valuable local historical and cultural works such as: History of Vinh City, Historical and Cultural Sites of Nghe An, August Revolution in Nghe An, History of the People's Procuracy of Nghe An Province, Mai Thuc Loan Uprising... The most prominent of which is the work History of Nghe An from the beginning to 2005, consisting of 2 volumes, which gathered most of the Central and local historians who are knowledgeable about Nghe An History to research, workshop, compile and accept. This is a typical scientific and technological work of Nghe An province in 2 years (2012-2013).

Every year, the faculty's staff publishes dozens of scientific articles in central and local journals, actively participates in international, national and local scientific conferences...

The 2013-2014 school year marks the 45th anniversary of the Faculty of History's establishment and development. Over the years, the faculty has trained tens of thousands of high-quality cadres and teachers, many of whom are former students and cadres holding important positions in the leadership agencies of the Party, the State, and the province, making an important contribution to the economic and social development of Nghe An, the North Central region as well as the whole country.

Currently, there are more than 1,400 students, hundreds of graduate students and dozens of postgraduates studying and training at the faculty. In recognition of the faculty's contributions to the country's education and training, the Faculty of History has been honored to receive many noble awards for the collective and individuals of the faculty such as: Third-class Labor Medal, Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and Training, the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, the title of Excellent Teacher, Emulation Fighter at the Ministry level, Medal "For the cause of education", "For the cause of science and technology", Labor Medals of various classes and many other awards...
