The Long Binh-Chrey Thom bridge project has been studied by relevant units of the two countries since 2003. During this time, Vietnamese and Cambodian officials, engineers and workers have closely coordinated in surveying, designing and preparing for investment.

This is the second largest transport project in Cambodia built with preferential credit capital from the Vietnamese Government, after the National Highway 78 project.

Long Binh-Chrey Thom Bridge has a total length (including the bridge and the roads at both ends of the bridge) of nearly 5,700 m, with a total investment of about 38 million USD, and is expected to be completed after 20 months of construction.

Once completed, the Long Binh-Chrey Thom bridge will be the shortest route connecting the capital Phnom Penh (Cambodia) to the Vietnam border, thereby contributing to promoting economic and trade development between the two countries as well as contributing to poverty reduction in the difficult border areas of the two countries.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport for working actively and closely coordinating with relevant ministries, branches and units of Cambodia to complete the design survey, investment preparation procedures as well as complete negotiations on procedures to sign the Credit Agreement and the Agreement to facilitate the commencement of construction of this bridge.

Emphasizing that the project is a symbol of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung requested the Ministry of Transport to closely coordinate with the Cambodian Ministry of Transport and Public Works and relevant units of the two countries in organizing, managing and constructing the project so that it can be completed on schedule, ensuring quality, put into operation soon, and ensuring investment efficiency.
