(Baonghean) - At wholesale markets in Vinh City, food prices have begun to show signs of movement, which is beneficial for livestock farmers. This is also the time when poultry and aquatic animal farms in the suburban areas step up care and investment to prepare food sources for sale on the market during the Lunar New Year.

At this time, poultry and aquaculture farms in Hung Hoa are focusing on food sources for sale during Tet. The duck farm of Ms. Duong Thi Hoai - Phong Phu hamlet has a concentrated scale of over 2 thousand ducks/batch. The facilities are invested in a methodical way with surrounding walls, corrugated iron roofs, and guaranteed electricity and water systems. Through discussion, it is known that she has just sold all of her duck meat to the Vinh City market at a price of 35 - 40 thousand VND/kg. In her current farm, she is taking good care of over 400 laying ducks to sell eggs.

She said: At the end of the year, raising meat ducks takes a long time to grow and is prone to disease, so my family prioritizes taking care of the egg-laying duck flock. Currently, 260 duck eggs are harvested each day. The import price for sale to traders at markets in Vinh City is 2,600 VND/egg, minus the cost of feed of about 2,300 VND/duck/day, she earns a profit of 300 VND/egg. Many models of raising laying ducks with a scale of 2,000 - 3,000 ducks/farm are focusing on confinement, ensuring care, nutrition, and disease prevention. Currently, there are 6 households that have proactively invested in egg incubators, importing and selling an average of 12,000 eggs/day to serve the city market, such as Mr. Duong Van Thang, Ms. Duong Thi Kiem, Pham Ngoc Thach, Duong Van Dong...

Due to the impact of storms and floods, many newly released fish stocks were washed away. However, many commercial fish farmers in Hung Hoa have focused on timely contacting fish stocks from Quan Bau and Hung Loc areas to proactively buy stocks to re-stock and serve the year-end market. Ms. Duong Thi Kiem - Phong Phu Cooperative (Hung Hoa), said: "We mainly focus on buying and releasing traditional fish stocks. According to Ms. Kiem, at the end of the year, the market prices of fish have increased compared to the beginning of the year. Grass carp increased by 3-4 thousand VND/kg, the selling price was 22-23 thousand VND/kg, carp and grass carp increased by an average of 5 thousand VND/kg. Currently, over 50 fish ponds of Hung Hoa people are entering the new fish season to prepare for the year-end market."

For industrial chicken farms, the end of the year is also seeing many positive changes. The industrial chicken farm of Mr. Nguyen Huy Tho - Hamlet 5, Nghi An has a scale of over 2 thousand chickens/batch. Currently, he is focusing on raising over 1 thousand chicks to prepare for the year-end market. Mr. Tho said: The current chicken price has increased compared to the same period last year and higher than the beginning of this year, reaching 42-50 thousand VND/kg. At the end of the year, according to the law, the chicken price can increase to 60-70 thousand VND/kg, raising chickens will be profitable.

It can be seen that the development of poultry and aquaculture in the suburban areas of Vinh City is being identified as an advantage. Many localities such as Hung Hoa, Nghi An, Dong Vinh... have turned livestock, poultry and aquaculture into a "bright spot" in economic development. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Que - Head of the Agricultural Department of Nghi An Commune, said: Due to the suitable terrain, the commune encourages people to focus on promoting their strengths in building chicken coops.

Focus on joint ventures with foreign companies in capital, breeds, and techniques to expand the scale and efficiency of raising chickens on a concentrated farm scale. This year, due to stable prices and easy consumption markets, the total number of chickens raised in the commune increased from 35,000 to 40,000. The number of models of households raising chickens according to biosafety models has increased. Currently, the commune has 7 industrial chicken farms with a scale of over 4,000 chickens/model that are developing well. It is estimated that the source of food sold to the market at the end of this year is quite abundant.

Vinh City currently has a total herd of over 300,000 chickens, ducks, nearly 5,000 buffaloes, cows, and 10,000 pigs, mainly concentrated in the suburban areas. The entire city currently has nearly 100 small and medium-sized farms concentrated in Nghi An, Nghi Duc, Hung Hoa, Nghi Lien, and Dong Vinh. Poultry farming is becoming a strength with 55 poultry farms with a scale of 500-1,000 birds/farm, 25 farms with a scale of 1,000-2,000 birds/farm, and 19 farms with a scale of over 2,000 birds/farm.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Thong - Deputy Head of Economic Department (Vinh City People's Committee), said: Compared to many previous years, this year, although the weather is unpredictable, there are no widespread epidemics. The output price for livestock products as well as the market is more positive than last year, so livestock facilities have begun to focus on investment. Currently, the city is implementing the policy of building a pilot farm of 2.5 hectares in Dong Vinh to develop livestock, poultry and waterfowl farming. Focus on directing slaughterhouses to operate according to the correct and scientific process.

With basic advantages, the city is ready with food sources for livestock, poultry, and aquatic products to serve the city market well at the end of the year. However, due to limited land fund, the development of livestock farming in the suburban area has only stopped at small and medium-sized farm models. In particular, high prices and input costs, limited capital for livestock expansion of households also greatly affect the efficiency of livestock farming.
