Prosecution and temporary detention of Facebooker specializing in calling for charity

Previously, on October 1, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency of Dien Bien Province Police conducted an emergency search of the house of Facebooker Nguyen Manh Tuan, a teacher who specializes in calling for charity.

On September 23, Dien Bien Provincial Police received a complaint from Ms. HTG (residing in Dien Bien Phu ward) about having transferred money many times.charity supportinto Tuan's personal account, but it is doubtful the money will reach those in need.

The investigation showed that since December 2016, Tuan had set up a "system" to call for charity, including 3 Facebook accounts (Nguyen Manh Tuan with a blue tick, Nguyen Tuan with more than 149,000 followers and Lang Tu Tay Bac) and many personal bank account numbers.

Tuan continuously posted pictures and stories about unfortunate lives to arouse compassion and call for support. After receiving the money transfer, Tuan only gave a small part to the needy, keeping the rest for personal use. From February to August 2025, the subject took advantage of the money and appropriated more than 140 million VND.

From the evidence collected, the Dien Bien Provincial Police Investigation Agency had enough grounds to prove Tuan’s act of profiting from charity. This subject then came to the police station to present himself and surrender.

The image of a teacher who was once trusted by many people being handcuffed and taken away was a shock to many witnesses when the police searched Tuan’s residence. The “charity” curtain that Tuan had built up for many years was officially exposed.

In the eyes of the online community, Nguyen Manh Tuan once appeared as an exemplary teacher, full of compassion, always feeling sorry for the suffering of the poor. The articles calling for support were written in a sincere tone, the photos of giving gifts and money to the disadvantaged were spread as proof of a pure heart.

The image of a “kind teacher, devoted to the poor” has made thousands of followers trust him and hundreds of benefactors willing to transfer money. But behind that moral and kind shell, Tuan has calculated, appropriated, and turned trust into a tool to satisfy his personal interests.
