On December 23, the Investigation Police Agency, Dong Nai Provincial Police announced that it had implemented the decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Lieutenant Le Van Thai (officer of the Environmental Crime Prevention Police Team, Bien Hoa City Police) for 4 months to investigate the act of accepting bribes.
According to initial investigation, Police Lieutenant Le Van Thai, while catching a tanker truck illegally dumping waste in the area, suggested that the driver pay money to ignore the violation.
On the afternoon of December 11, while Thai was receiving 50 million VND from a tanker truck driver at a drinking place in Thong Nhat Ward (Bien Hoa City), he was caught red-handed by the reconnaissance force of the Department of Economic Crime Investigation and Position Management of Dong Nai Provincial Police.
Previously, the Environmental Crime Prevention Police Team of Bien Hoa City Police discovered a tanker truck that regularly dumped waste illegally in the area, so they sent forces to monitor it. Thai was assigned to monitor and caught him red-handed, but he accepted bribes.
