On December 13, Dai Loc District Police, Quang Nam Province announced that they had just issued a decision to prosecute and detain Dang Ngoc Bao (born in 1977), residing in Hai Chau District, Da Nang City, to investigate the act of ""Extortion of property".

Previously, through monitoring on mass media, Dang Ngoc Bao learned that Truong Loi Joint Stock Company (headquartered in Dai Quang Industrial Cluster, Dai Loc District) violated the regulations on exploiting and transporting minerals at the sand mine in Ngoc Kinh Dong village, Dai Hong commune, Dai Loc district, but has not yet completely remedied the situation.

On November 28-29, Dang Ngoc Bao and a number of people went directly to the mineral exploitation site of Truong Loi Joint Stock Company to collect information and images and requested the company's leaders to meet and discuss directly with Dang Ngoc Bao, otherwise they would publish articles that would affect the company's operations.

At around 4:00 p.m. on November 29, at a coffee shop in Phu Hai village, Dai Hiep commune, Dai Loc district, Dai Loc district police caught Bao red-handed receiving 9.8 million VND from a representative of Truong Loi Joint Stock Company.

Through investigation, Dang Ngoc Bao confessed that he is currently a reporter for Environment and Society Magazine.

Not long ago, a similar property extortion case also occurred in Son La province.

Accordingly, on October 31, when seeing a household leveling the land in Ban Chieng Di, Van Ho commune, Van Ho district to build a house, Nguyen Van Kieu (born in 1987), a contract reporter for the Ethnic and Development newspaper, and Ha Van Binh (born in 1978), a contract editor for the 24-hour news channel Phap Luat and Doi Song) drove a car to introduce themselves as officers working at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and asked about the family's land documents and procedures. When the homeowner replied that the documents were complete, one of the two subjects asked the homeowner to give them some money as a gift to report to the leaders.

Fearing that the subjects would cause trouble, the homeowner borrowed 5 million VND from nearby residents to give to the subjects. After the two subjects left, the homeowner suspected that they were not officers from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, so he reported it to the Moc Chau District Police.

After receiving the denunciation, the Investigation Police Agency of Moc Chau District Police investigated, verified and arrested the subjects.
