(Baonghean.vn) - Colonel Cao Tien Mai - Head of Nam Dan District Police (Nghe An) said that on August 22, the investigation agency initiated a case of gambling in the form of cockfighting in the area that was destroyed on August 14, prosecuting 5 defendants for gambling.

Evidence of more than 100 phones and money seized at the scene

"Currently, the defendants will be prosecuted for gambling and continue to be investigated for organizing gambling. Other related people will continue to be investigated, if there is enough evidence, more arrests will be made," the district police chief said, adding that big gamblers bet from 1-2 million VND on each cockfight. At the time of the police arrest on August 14, there were 4 cocks in the fight, and the owners of the cocks have not yet been identified.

The owner of the cockfighting arena, Trinh Phi Hung, after being arrested, said that the cockfighting arena operates according to the rules every Thursday and Friday. On a normal day, there are about 50-70 people present, and on busy days, there can be up to more than 100 people, both from within and outside the province. The form of gambling is that the two cockfighting owners place bets themselves, or the people standing around place bets with each other for each match.

Earlier, at noon on August 14, about 60 police officers from Nam Dan district raided the cockfighting arena at the home of Trinh Phi Hung (36 years old, residing in Ba Ha block, Nam Dan town), temporarily detaining 94 people present to investigate the crime of gambling and organizing gambling in the form of cockfighting. The seized evidence was more than 184 million VND in cash, 300 USD, 4 cars, more than 54 motorbikes, more than 100 phones and 22 fighting cocks.

This is the biggest gambling case disguised as cockfighting in Nghe An ever to be caught by Nam Dan police.
