Don't consider graduation rate as an achievement

(Baonghean.vn) -This afternoon, April 11, under the chairmanship of comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Examination Steering Committee, the Steering Committee for the recognition of junior high school graduation, high school graduation exam for the 2012-2013 school year, and enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year held a meeting to deploy tasks to prepare for the 2013 exam, with the participation of members of the Provincial Examination Steering Committee.

Evaluation of the 2012 exam shows that, thanks to the timely guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, the timely direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, and the preparation work of the Department of Education and Training, the 2012 high school graduation exam and the 10th grade entrance exam were organized seriously, safely and in accordance with regulations. The Department of Education and Training proactively coordinated and mobilized effective and positive contributions from departments, branches, levels, organizations and people in the province. The exam supervision process has become systematic, disciplined and serious. The exam marking and review of results have been closely directed and organized. The exam marking councils strictly implemented the regulations and instructions on marking of the Ministry and the Department. The results of the exams generally reflected the current quality of education in schools.

To ensure the 2013 exam is safe, serious, fair and accurately assesses the quality of teaching and learning, reducing costs for parents, students and society. Basically, in 2013, maintain stability in organizing exams, specifically: the 2013 high school graduation exam is organized in inter-school exam clusters. The entrance exam for grade 10 high school is conducted in the form of an entrance exam; the entrance exam for grade 10 Phan Boi Chau specialized high school is conducted according to the regulations on organization and operation of specialized high schools in combination with the entrance exam for grade 10 high school. At the meeting, the Department of Education and Training also announced the schedule for considering and recognizing junior high school graduation for schools in the whole province from May 16 to May 20, 2013; by May 30, 2013, junior high schools must complete the consideration and recognition of graduation for students and send the list to the office of the Department of Education and Training.

Concluding the meeting, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong emphasized: This year's exam continues to strictly implement Directive No. 33/2006/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on combating negativity and overcoming the disease of achievements in education; not considering the graduation rate as an achievement. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to promptly issue guiding documents, organize and implement the exams in a specific and detailed manner, especially the instructions on exam supervision and grading. Strengthen the propaganda work on the purpose and significance of the exams to students, parents and all social classes, contributing to the good implementation of the exams. Direct high schools and continuing education centers to complete the school year schedule, organize review well so that students can grasp knowledge, practice skills and have a good mindset when entering the exam.
