Speaking of Nguyen Duc Thang, the people of Nam Dan town know him because he devoted his youth to the battlefield and fulfilled his international duty in Laos. When he returned to his hometown, he was still a simple citizen, strictly following the policies of the Party and the laws of the State; and enthusiastically working in production. Despite his old age and weak health, in order to increase his income, after many years of saving, in 1998, he bought a motorbike as a means of transportation, combined with working as a motorbike driver to increase his income.

When they heard that he was “hooked” on drugs, the whole Phan Boi Chau block, the small town of Nam Dan, did not believe it was true. But when they knew exactly that because they could not resist the temptation of illegal money, Nguyen Duc Thang was caught red-handed by the police while illegally transporting 2 heroin plants, at this time the locals both pitied and blamed him for not being in control of himself.

According to Nguyen Duc Thang, he has been working as a hybrid motorbike driver in Nam Dan town since 1998. While driving this hybrid motorbike, Thang happened to meet a man named Hai (full name and address unknown). It was not until June 14, 2013, at around 5:00 p.m., that Hai called Nguyen Duc Thang to ask him to buy 2 heroin sticks for 46 million VND.

After agreeing on the price, he found that buying and selling was easy but profitable, only taking 4 hours but earning up to 4 million VND, an amount of money that could not be earned by riding a motorbike for a whole year. Thinking so, Thang immediately went to his younger brother Son's house to borrow a car with license plate 37S-1945 and drove himself to the Vo Liet hill area, Vo Liet commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An to meet a person named Son (unknown last name, age, specific address) to buy 2 heroin sticks for 42 million VND. After buying, Thang left the drugs next to the handbrake and drove the car to the Vinh City Club area to deliver the heroin to Hai as agreed.

At 9:00 p.m. the same day, when the car driven by Thang arrived at Ngu Hai Street, Vinh City, the Vinh City Police checked and discovered 2 heroin plants in the car, with a total weight of 75.185 grams.

Based on the above evidence, the People's Procuracy of Nghe An province prosecuted Nguyen Duc Thang (born in 1956, residing in Phan Boi Chau block, Nam Dan town, Nam Dan district, Nghe An) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking". On September 23, the People's Court of Nghe An province brought the criminal case to trial. Standing in front of the bar, Thang expressed regret for not being able to overcome the temptations of ill-gotten money to face prison. Considering that the defendant had a good character, committed the crime for the first time, was awarded various medals and orders, and showed remorse, after deliberation, the presiding judge sentenced the defendant to 13 years in prison.
