Children under 6 years old should not watch 3D images.
3D images can disrupt young children's ability to adjust to simultaneous side-to-side eye movements.
The French organization for food safety, environmental and occupational health (ANSES) on November 5 recommended that children under 6 years old should not watch movies or play 3D video games.
This is the first scientific study on the effects of 3D images on eye development as 3D technology is exploding with many applications on devices, especially mobile phones.
ANSES research shows that 3D images can disrupt the ability of both eyes to move simultaneously in both directions when a person focuses on an object.

The process of perceiving the 3D effect is very different from normal because both eyes must simultaneously look at images in two different positions before the brain synthesizes them into a single image. In young children, especially children under 6 years old, the harmful effects of conflicting simultaneous movement of both eyes in two directions are more severe because this is the age when the visual system is still developing.
ANSES also recommends that children under 13 years of age should have only "moderate" exposure to 3D images.
Experts have repeatedly raised questions about the impact of 3D technology on children's eyesight, but no guidelines or regulations have been developed on this issue. Currently, Italy is the only country that has issued regulations restricting the use of 3D glasses for young children./.
