No fine for wearing fake helmets

Speaking at the press conference, Minister and Head of the Government Office Nguyen Van Nen cited the provisions of the law, which is also the content that the Government has agreed on, which is to only handle cases where drivers of motorbikes, scooters, electric bicycles, and electric scooters do not wear helmets, or wear helmets without fastening the straps, or wearing the straps incorrectly, or carrying passengers on the vehicle who do not wear helmets.

Minister Nen also took this opportunity to hope that the press would clearly inform the regulations so that people could understand them.

"The information about this issue has not been accurate in the past, making people feel insecure. Of course, we want to protect people's lives and health, but fake helmets are another matter. It is the responsibility of the authorities to inspect and handle it. We cannot force people to take responsibility for that," said the Minister.

Starting from July 1, Hanoi Traffic Police teams have been deployed to focus on handling cases of drivers of motorbikes, electric bicycles, and electric motorbikes not wearing helmets, or wearing helmets without fastening the straps, or not fastening the straps properly; and carrying passengers on motorbikes and electric motorbikes without wearing helmets.

Because the authorities are hesitant to identify whether a helmet meets the standards or is eligible for circulation, yesterday, the traffic police still focused on handling cases of drivers running red lights, not wearing helmets, or wearing helmets without fastening the straps, driving on prohibited roads...

In the case of traffic participants wearing helmets not intended for motorbikes or scooters, the traffic police mainly only propagate and remind people to raise awareness and know how to distinguish between fake helmets and standard helmets.
