Failed to be elected to the Provincial Party Committee, still nominated to run for the National Assembly

In the list of 197 candidates for the 14th National Assembly (NA) introduced by central agencies, there is one case that must be voted on separately at the third consultation conference of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on the morning of April 14.

That is the case of Mr. Le Thanh Van - currently working full-time at the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee. Mr. Van was once transferred to work as Deputy Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee, but at the Provincial Party Congress, Mr. Van was not elected to the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, so he no longer holds the position of Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

The Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front voted on the list of candidates for the National Assembly.

Mr. Tran Van Tuy - Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee - informed: Mr. Van was not elected to the Standing Committee of Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee, but when he was introduced as a candidate for the 14th National Assembly, through consulting voters at his workplace and residence, Mr. Van still received high support.

Mr. Le Truyen - Member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front - expressed concern about the question "if Mr. Le Thanh Van "failed to complete his duties", is he worthy of being nominated to run for the National Assembly?".

Mr. Nguyen Tuc - Member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front - said that the fact that Mr. Van is not trusted by the locality and is now being introduced to run for the National Assembly could be an offensive thing.

Different from the above two opinions, the President of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin - Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh said: Mr. Van showed good awareness during his activities in Hai Duong. It is very regrettable that he was not elected to the Standing Committee of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee.

"We cannot not appreciate that comrade just because he was not elected to the Provincial Party Standing Committee or Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee. When he was assigned by the Central Organizing Committee to work at the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee, Mr. Van performed well, so in my opinion, Mr. Van deserves to be nominated to run for the National Assembly," said Mr. Rinh.

Also agreeing, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Duong - former Deputy Head of the National Assembly Office - added: "We should not think that people who do not get into Party agencies are not good people. The fact that Mr. Van did not get into the Standing Committee of Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee is also normal, it is a political risk that everyone must accept," Mr. Duong analyzed.

According to Professor Duong, Mr. Van is a member of the 13th National Assembly who has demonstrated his ability in the last National Assembly term. He is a doctor of law, has a good understanding and has contributed a lot to the activities of the National Assembly. "Mr. Van has been approved by the voters in his place of residence, so there is no reason to reject the nomination of comrade Le Thanh Van as a candidate."

Due to many different opinions on Mr. Van's case, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan proposed a separate voting option.

The conference voted 57/62 to agree to include Mr. Le Thanh Van in the list of candidates for the 14th National Assembly.
