Pu Huong Nature Reserve: Promoting biodiversity values

(Baonghean) - Pu Huong Nature Reserve was established in 2001. The forest area assigned for management is 49,806 hectares, including forest areas of 12 communes in 5 mountainous districts of Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong, Tuong Duong and Con Cuong. The goal is to manage and restore existing forests to protect the river buffer zone and conduct scientific research to preserve and develop biodiversity, creating an eco-tourism area. With that goal, after 15 years of construction and development, especially in the last term under the leadership of the Party Committee of the unit, many results have been achieved in all fields.

Under the leadership of the Party Cell, the propaganda and dissemination of policies and guidelines have been promoted. During the past term, 155 propaganda meetings were organized for the people. Thanks to the good propaganda work, people's awareness of participating in forest protection has increased. Over the past 5 years, there have been no major fires in the area. Through the people's denunciations, combined with patrols and controls, Pu Huong Forest Protection Department has detected and handled 255 cases of forestry law violations; confiscated more than 711m3 of wood, 1,300 kg of charcoal, and fined more than 3.5 billion VND to the state budget.

To minimize deforestation by local people, in addition to propaganda and mobilization, the management board of the conservation area has developed 3 programs and projects to support people in the buffer zone in planting forests, assigning protection contracts, and zoning... with a total budget of 21 billion VND. In addition to forest protection, the board also participates in scientific research, has made many positive contributions to the investigation and study of biodiversity, and the conservation of some rare animal species. Promote professional activities, other activities on culture, society, national defense - security, and building mass organizations; especially the work of Party building has been focused on, achieving many results.

Core forest patrol.

The Party cell always takes Party building as the key task. Every year, the Party cell coordinates with districts to organize propaganda and disseminate directives and resolutions, thereby gradually raising awareness of the Party and State's guidelines and policies. Every year, cadres and Party members register to study and follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example in conjunction with their work, so it has been effective. To create strength for the bloc of solidarity and unity, the work of organizing cadres is always respected, choosing the right people and assigning the right tasks, so it has been effective. During the term, 12 cadres were sent to study management, 4 to graduate school, and 9 to university. 1 new deputy director, 1 deputy head of the forest ranger department, 5 station heads, etc. were appointed; 6 party members were considered for admission.

The Resolution of the Party Congress for the 2010-2015 term set out 7 targets, and so far, 2 targets have been exceeded, 3 targets have been achieved, and 1 target has almost been achieved... Of which, the forest coverage of the conservation area reached 97.1%, exceeding 18.4%...

From the results of implementing the Resolution of the 3rd Congress, term 2010 - 2015, the Party Committee of Pu Huong Nature Reserve set the following goals for the 4th Congress, term 2015 - 2020: Minimize acts of encroachment on forest resources and biodiversity to preserve and promote the values ​​of science, environment, resources and landscape of the reserve; attract investment resources to support the socio-economic development of the buffer zone; build increasingly strong party, professional and mass organizations. The main targets are: Attract investment capital to support development of 20 billion VND; collect 600 million VND from service activities at the agency; average income per capita reaches 77 million VND/year; protect the assigned forest area, ensuring coverage of over 97%; To achieve the set targets, the Party Committee has also proposed specific solutions that are appropriate to the actual situation of the unit, such as: solutions for forest management, protection and development, solutions for socio-economic development, solutions for building specialized agencies, etc.

Promoting the achievements of the past term, under the leadership of the Party cell, with specific goals and a scientific way of organizing the implementation of those goals in accordance with the practical situation of the unit, we believe that the activities of Pu Huong Nature Reserve will achieve great new results.
