Koutalaki ski resort combines snowy mountains with resort
BIG Architect - a Danish architectural firm, is implementing a plan to develop the Levi resort in Lapland with a futuristic design.
The new resort will be called Koutalaki Ski Resort, located on the top of the mountain where the Levi Ski Center is located, with a panoramic view of the surrounding landscapes, the village of Sirkka and the urban area of Kittila. The architectural design is a new hybrid solution, combining a resort with a ski resort on the top of the mountain.
Levi Resort did not want to have lifts to reach the ski slopes, and the flat terrain here makes it difficult to move between ski slopes. And BIG Architect came up with the solution of creating artificial snow peaks from which skiers can move to different slopes more easily and choose their directions simply.
The creation of artificial snow peaks along with the creation of surrounding landscapes opens up many ways to develop space within the resort. By creating additional buildings, architects can easily create a square central area right inside the ski area.
The architectural development plan of the resort proposes a futuristic structure, allowing visitors to have 360-degree views from the snow peaks at different heights. The structure is determined by four snow peaks that allow skiers to visit, descending to the lower areas - where the buildings open up in parallel directions and blend into each other along the streets. The two lower northern structures offer views of the village of Sirkka, along with four buildings that offer panoramic views of the mountains.
Four buildings will surround the central area and act as a windbreak for the area while providing direct views of the surrounding landscape. The area will also offer a variety of outdoor activities such as snowboarding, music events, public areas with restaurants, cafes, bars while in the summer the whole area will be green like a garden.
