Kia says that while the new Sorento was primarily designed in Korea, it was also approved by design teams in Europe and the U.S. The brand's signature features remain on the new model, including the "tiger nose" grille, swept-back headlights, revised bumpers and new lighting clusters.
The interior has also been revealed through a number of sketches, with a multimedia touchscreen dominating the cabin. Kia promises that the new Sorento will be “unparalleled in luxury” and feature “a host of new comfort and safety features.”
The car uses a modified version of the current Hyundai Santa Fe's chassis. It also carries over the 194bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine, but has been slightly tweaked to improve fuel economy and emissions. The current manual Sorento consumes around 5.9L/100km and emits 155g/km of CO2.

A hybrid version – using a 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor – will follow after the new car’s launch, but Kia is still deciding whether to offer it in Europe. There may also be a fuel-cell version, using technology from the ix35 FCEV.
The new Sorento was officially launched in Korea in late September before being revealed at the Paris Motor Show.
