The Ministry of Information and Communications said it has just taken additional drastic measures to strengthen the blocking of spam and scam messages during the 2012 Tet and festival season.

Specifically, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son issued Directive No. 04/CT-BTTTT dated December 30, 2011, requesting to step up propaganda to raise awareness among people; check and handle subjects spreading spam and scam messages.

Accordingly, from now until January 9, mobile telecommunications companies must send a text message to all subscribers on their network with the content "DN warns of spam messages: To avoid being SCAMMED and UNEXPECTEDLY LOST MONEY, when using services via SMS, please carefully study the RATES and SERVICES." In which "DN" is the name of the mobile telecommunications company itself (VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel...). After the above time, texting must be done regularly.

In addition, inspection and examination work will be strengthened. Organizations, individuals and businesses that take advantage of spreading spam and scam messages during the holidays and Tet to profit and commit fraud will be inspected immediately after Tet.

In fact, recently, many mobile subscribers have regularly received advertising messages from prepaid mobile subscribers.

These messages often contain fortune telling, gambling, lottery, or have signs of fraud such as winning announcements, gift giving, free GPRS installation, etc. However, when mobile subscribers text according to the instructions, money will be deducted.

In addition to businesses and authorities joining hands to eliminate spam messages, the Ministry of Information and Communications also recommends that people should be vigilant and not reply to messages or follow instructions from messages of unknown origin, containing advertising, solicitation, or impersonation content...

In particular, users should not send messages to numbers providing content services via text messages if they do not clearly understand or are not sure about the service information and service fees./.
