Remittances to Vietnam from labor export reach 3 - 4 billion USD per year

According to the report from the Department of Overseas Labor Management (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs), the number of Vietnamese workers working abroad increases steadily every year, especially in the last 5 years, increasing by about 10,000 people each year.

The amount of remittances sent back to the country by Vietnamese workers abroad each year is estimated at 3 - 4 billion USD.

Mr. Nguyen Gia Liem, Deputy Director of the Department of Overseas Labor Management, said that in 2020 alone, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of workers going to work abroad decreased to more than 78,000 people.

Along with the quantityworkers working abroadincreased, the number of Vietnamese workers currently working in overseas labor markets has also increased significantly, from about 500,000 people in 2010 to about 580,000 people now.

Specifically, Taiwan has 230,000 people; Japan has nearly 230,000 people; South Korea has nearly 50,000 people; Malaysia and Southeast Asian countries have about 30,000 people; the Middle East - Africa and Europe each have about 15,000 people, the rest are in other countries.

Vietnamese workers working abroad are mainly in the fields of construction, manufacturing (mechanics, garment, leather shoes, electronics assembly...), domestic work, caring for the elderly, the sick, agriculture, aquaculture... in major markets such as Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Middle East, Malaysia...

Most of the workers go to work in Northeast Asian markets (Japan, Taiwan, South Korea) which are markets with quite high income, about 1,200 - 1,400 USD/month in Korea, Japan; 700 - 800 USD/month in Taiwan (China), Europe; 400 - 600 USD/month in the Middle East, Africa and Malaysia markets.

Mr. Liem said that Vietnamese workers working abroad are well received by countries and employers: skillful, hardworking, able to grasp work quickly, eager to learn, creative, dynamic, productive and high-quality.

QuantityremittanceThe amount of money transferred back to the country by Vietnamese workers working abroad is estimated to reach 3-4 billion USD annually.

"The results of sending workers to work abroad not only contribute to job creation, reducing pressure on job creation for domestic workers, specifically accounting for about 7-9% of the number of workers who are employed and created jobs annually nationwide, but also contribute to improving the lives of workers and their families," Mr. Liem emphasized.

Notably, many families with relatives working abroad have escaped poverty and have the conditions to invest in production and business, especially in localities with many workers working abroad, which has changed the face of villages and hamlets with many spacious houses springing up, contributing to stabilizing social security in the locality.

In addition, workers working abroad also improve their professional skills, acquire knowledge, foreign languages ​​and advanced working styles from abroad, becoming an important human resource after returning home.

About the goallabor exportIn 2021, Mr. Liem said that due to the current epidemic situation and the potential risk of economic and political crisis in the world affecting the field of workers going to work abroad, it is expected that in 2021, the plan is to send about 90,000 workers to work abroad.

In the following years, when the situation is stable, the plan is to send about 120 - 150 thousand workers to work abroad each year.
