Chrysanthemum - A medicine for eye diseases
Chrysanthemum has the effect of cooling, lowering blood pressure, reducing pain, and is especially good for the eyes.
Among the ornamental yellow chrysanthemums, only the chrysanthemum (a small flower often used for worship, tea and wine) is recognized by traditional medicine and folk experience as having the effect of cooling, lowering blood pressure, reducing pain, and is especially good for the eyes.
The medicinal herb has a sweet, slightly bitter taste, aromatic smell, cool and neutral properties, and is used in the following cases:
Cure for eyes with pterygium: Equal amounts of chrysanthemum and cicada shell (thuyen thoai), crushed. Each time, take 8-12g with water mixed with a little honey (Nam Duoc Than Hieu).
Cure red, swollen, painful eyes and liver heat: 10g of golden chrysanthemum, 10g of green tea, 10g of cassia seed, 10g of motherwort, 10g of rehmannia glutinosa. Boil all with 400ml of water until 100ml remains, drink twice a day.
Or 4g chrysanthemum, 4g pagoda tree flower, 10g lotus leaf or lotus root, brew and drink.
Treating dizziness, vertigo, dry eyes: 12g of golden chrysanthemum, 20g of wolfberry, 12g of poria, 12g of peony bark, 16g of cornel, 12g of alisma, 16g of Chinese yam, 32g of rehmannia. Dry all, grind into fine powder, mix with honey to make pills the size of corn kernels. Take 3 times a day, 16-20 pills each time. Can be boiled and drunk with the dosage of each ingredient reduced by 1/6.
Treat kidney failure, blurred vision, dizziness, vertigo, high blood pressure: 12g of golden chrysanthemum, 12g of sophora flower, 12g of roasted cassia seed, 12g of wolfberry, 12g of scrophularia root, 12g of alisma, 12g of achyranthes, 12g of rehmannia root, 12g of Chinese yam. Boil and drink.
Treatment of macular degeneration, poor eyesight: 12g of golden chrysanthemum, 12g of atractylodes macrocephala, 12g of gardenia fruit, 12g of scutellaria root, 12g of wolfberry, 12g of jujube, 12g of longan, 12g of polygala root, 20g of cassia seed, 20g of rehmannia root, 8g of cicada shell. Slice all into small pieces, dry, and drink during the day. Treatment time is 1-2 months.
Cure chronic eye pain, sore eyes, or watery eyes: 10g of chrysanthemum, 10g of Tribulus terrestris fruit, 10g of Cassia seed, fried until golden. Crush all, boil and drink during the day.
Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis (red eyes, itching, photophobia): 8g of chrysanthemum, 16g of mulberry leaves, 16g of Chinese clematis, 12g of saposhnikovia, 12g of coptis, 12g of cistanche, 12g of perilla, 12g of plantain, 8g of mint. Boil and drink 1 dose per day.
According to foreign documents, in China, chrysanthemum is also used to treat eye diseases:
Treat keratitis: 10g chrysanthemum, 3g green tea. Steep in boiling water, add a little sugar, drink once a day.
Cure red eyes, swelling, pain, fear of light, and watery eyes: 25g of chrysanthemum, 50g of cassia seed, 15g of mulberry leaves, 10g of licorice. Boil and drink.
Treating decreased vision and dizziness: 100g of chrysanthemum, 200g of wolfberry, 200g of rehmannia glutinosa. Dry roast all until crispy, grind into powder. Drink 3 times a day, 3-5 times each time on an empty stomach.
Cure blurred vision: 10g of chrysanthemum, 10g of Chinese clematis, 50-100g of goat liver. Chop all ingredients and boil until the liver is cooked. Filter the water and drink it, then eat the liver once a day.
