Kim Jong-un receives Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Pyongyang
(Baonghean.vn) - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un received senior Russian diplomat Sergey Lavrov, who arrived in Pyongyang to attend talks on the Korean Peninsula issue, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on May 31.

“On May 31, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid an official visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and was received by Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong-un,” the statement said.
“During the talks with DPRK Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho, the current state and prospects for further development of friendly and cooperative relations between Russia and the DPRK were discussed, as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries,” the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
“There was a thorough exchange of views on the situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula, with a focus on ways to promote coordinated efforts to find political and diplomatic solutions to all issues facing the region,” the statement said.
Previously, TASS news agency also quoted a source from the Russian delegation saying that Foreign Minister Lavrov met with Mr. Kim Jong-un before concluding his visit to Pyongyang.
Lavrov is the first Russian to meet the current leader of North Korea. According to information, the meeting took place at the Paekhwawon State Guest House.
“Although some Russians have met Kim Jong-un before, this is the first official face-to-face meeting,” the source said.
