Japanese experience in reclaiming wasteland

Renting and cultivating an abandoned piece of land, three large Japanese companies, Asahi Breweries, Sumitomo Chemical and Itochu, received much ridicule, contempt and skepticism from the Chinese people. But only 5 years later, they had to change their minds and pay their respects to the intelligence and conscience of the Japanese people.

Three leading Japanese companies began leasing this 1,500-acre land in 2006, their lease contract lasted for 20 years. However, after 5 years, this abandoned land is still... abandoned when weeds are still growing everywhere, the soil is still not improved, making many people skeptical.

What did the Japanese do with the abandoned land?

During the first 5 years, the Japanese let the land "breathe" and rest after its quality had deteriorated due to long-term exposure to pesticides, fertilizers and toxic chemicals. After 5 years, they began to carry out the renovation work.

First, they raise cows. Cow manure is used to improve soil quality. The land used to grow green trees is not polluted, so the Japanese have focused on improving soil quality from the very first steps. These crops are the main source of food for cows, so only when the crops are of high quality can the cow's milk be of good quality and yield significantly. All substandard cow's milk products will be thrown away.

After raising cattle, the Japanese grow fruit trees and popular root crops. During the whole process of growing and raising livestock, they do not use any pesticides or chemicals. That is why the yield of fruits and vegetables they grow is very low and the cost is extremely high.

Right from the moment they decided to lease land to cultivate in Lai Duong, the Japanese received many negative reactions and attitudes from the Chinese people.

Chinese people think Japan works "stupidly" and inefficiently!

They do not know that the Japanese have studied this land very carefully. When compared to other lands in other provinces and cities, this land has a more promising future due to its high fertility, lack of heavy pollution, stable water source and distance from large industrial and processing zones. Products made on this land will be of high quality, healthy and ensure the health of consumers.

Unexpected results after 5 years of not using chemicals or pesticides

When the Japanese decided to say no to pesticides and chemicals to increase production, the Chinese people thought they were foolish with a way of working that was not only inefficient but also costly.

The main products such as cow's milk, fruits and vegetables from Lai Duong land all meet international standards. They produce each liter of cow's milk at the price of 22 yuan (about 70,000 VND), 1.5 times more expensive than domestic milk price. Each kilogram of strawberries they produce costs 120 yuan/kg (about 400,000 VND).

These expensive agricultural products are currently only supplied 10% to the Shanghai and Beijing markets. Due to the high prices, supply cannot meet demand, so 90% of the goods will be exported back to the Japanese market for consumption.

The Japanese practice of saying no to chemicals in farming and renovation not only protects the environment, brings in good profits, ensures food safety and hygiene, but also improves people's lives.

The Japanese way of working always surprises the world and makes them take their hats off to them. The Japanese philosophy of life is "Before planting trees, you need to take care of the soil; before taking care of the soil, you need to educate people." They have always followed that and continuously reaped good results today.
