(Baonghean) - Hypoglycemia complications, if not treated promptly, will lead to quite serious consequences, so it must be taken seriously and handled promptly depending on the specific situation.

1. Patient is still conscious:

- Drink sugary drinks until symptoms improve.

- Do not drink chemical sugars (sodium saccharinate, ammonium saccharineate) for diabetics.

2. Coma patients:

Emergency treatment.

2.1. Glucose solution 30% or 50%.

Inject directly into the vein an amount of glucose as follows: Amount of Glucose = [Weight (kg) X 0.2] x [Gbt - Gh]. In which Gbt is the required plasma glucose concentration, for example G = 1 g/l, Gh is the blood glucose concentration when hypoglycemia occurs, for example Gh = 0.2 g/l. Thus, for a patient weighing 50 kg, the amount of glucose to be injected initially is: 50 x 0.2 x (1 x 0.2) g = 8g glucose.

Intravenous infusion should not be used but should be given directly to achieve rapid and high blood glucose levels.

2.2. Glucagon (1 mg tube):

Intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous injection at a dose of 1-2 mg, can be repeated after 10-20 minutes (short half-life). Do not use glucagon in severe alcoholics due to poor liver glycogen reserves, or in patients who have been fasting for a long time and no longer have liver glycogen reserves. Patients with long-term type 1 diabetes also have little response to glucagon.

2.3. Hydrocortisone: 100mg intravenous injection.
