(Baonghean.vn)- According to the announcement of Nghe An Department of Health, the cause of the pregnant woman's death at Dien Chau District General Hospital was due to "poor professional qualifications".

On March 16, Nghe An Department of Health issued Notice No. 542 concluding the death review at Dien Chau District General Hospital in the case of mother and child Vo Thi Van (born 1986), residing in Dien Xuan commune, Dien Chau district, who died at Dien Chau District General Hospital.

During the implementation of professional regulations, the on-duty team performed a cursory examination, did not fully exploit the functional and physical symptoms to help predict the birth and timely handle the stages of labor; did not properly assess the importance of abnormal signs such as large fetus, polyhydramnios to have a proper monitoring and handling plan; did not promptly detect signs of threatened uterine rupture to consult and decide on appropriate steps to handle.

Accordingly, the professional council concluded: The doctor and midwife on duty did not fully comply with professional procedures and regulations; their professional qualifications were weak, and they did not promptly detect difficult labor symptoms, leading to inaccurate assessment and prognosis of labor, and when the uterus ruptured, it was discovered that, although treated immediately, the patient's life could not be saved.

Due to the violations of the on-duty team, the Disciplinary Council decided to remove Dr. Cao Thi Huong from her position as Deputy Head of the Obstetrics Department. In addition, Dr. Huong must also transfer to another job and not directly participate in obstetric and gynecological examination and treatment for patients for a period of 12 months. Midwife Nguyen Thi Giang was disciplined with a warning and transferred to a nursing position for a period of 12 months. Midwife Ho Thi Tinh was disciplined with a reprimand and transferred to a nursing position for a period of 6 months. After the above period, the Disciplinary Council will consider arranging suitable work if progress is seen.

Currently, Nghe An Department of Health is continuing to direct advisory agencies on the content of professional conclusions and discipline in accordance with current regulations.

Previously, at noon on March 8, pregnant woman Vo Thi Van, 41 weeks pregnant, gave birth to her second child at the Obstetrics Department, Dien Chau District General Hospital. The pregnant woman was monitored by the on-duty team in labor and waiting to give birth at the Obstetrics Department, Dien Chau District General Hospital.

However, at 9:48 p.m., the mother and child died. Initial diagnosis was that the mother and child died due to “hemorrhagic shock due to uterine rupture during labor.” After the mother died, the family cooperated with the hospital in handling the patient’s death, and at the same time requested the hospital to clarify the cause and responsibility.
