Celebrating the 100th birthday of General Nguyen Chi Thanh

On the morning of December 31, in Hue City, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front of Thua Thien-Hue province solemnly held a rally to celebrate the 100th birthday of General Nguyen Chi Thanh (January 1, 1914 - January 1, 2014).

Attending the ceremony were Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat Le Hong Anh; Politburo member, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Dinh The Huynh; former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, along with representatives of ministries, departments and branches at the central and local levels; generals of the Ministry of National Defense, Military Region IV; family of General Nguyen Chi Thanh and a large number of people of Thua Thien-Hue province.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung sent congratulatory flower baskets.

In his speech at the ceremony, comrade Le Hong Anh reviewed the life and revolutionary career of General Nguyen Chi Thanh - a military politician, an outstanding son of the Vietnamese people, and an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh.

Comrade Le Hong Anh emphasized: On the 100th anniversary of the birth of General Nguyen Chi Thanh, we remember a talented and strategic general of the Vietnam People's Army, an exemplary senior leader, full of determination and courage, always completing the assigned tasks excellently regardless of his position. He lived honestly, frankly, harmoniously, and was close to his comrades and compatriots. He was an excellent son who always had deep and warm feelings for his homeland Thua Thien-Hue.

“The life and glorious revolutionary career of Comrade will forever be a shining example for us to learn from and strive to follow. Each cadre and party member should uphold the revolutionary will, constantly train in all aspects, strive to successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress, and firmly build and defend the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam with a rich people, strong country, democracy, equality and civilization,” the Standing Secretariat stated.

At the ceremony, Secretary of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ngoc Thien affirmed: The Party Committee, Government and people of the province are willing to learn from the example of General Nguyen Chi Thanh, promote achievements, unite to successfully carry out all assigned tasks, and soon build Thua Thien-Hue into a centrally-run city according to Conclusion 48-KL/TW of the Politburo.

Representatives of the young generation also affirmed their absolute faith in the Party, determination to unite and move forward in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country, building the homeland and country to become increasingly prosperous.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defense, on behalf of General Nguyen Chi Thanh's family, expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State, Army and all the people as well as the homeland of Thua Thien-Hue for their warm and deep affection for the family over the past time.
