Commemorating the 120th Birthday of Martyr Pham Hong Thai

(Baonghean.vn)- Pham Hong Thai was a patriot, the person who created the Sa Dien Bomb, assassinating the Governor General of Indochina Merlin in 1924.

On May 13, Hung Nguyen district held a ceremony to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of martyr Pham Hong Thai. Attending the ceremony were comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ho Mau Thanh, Director of the Department of Culture - Sports & Tourism, leaders of Hung Nguyen district, relatives of Pham family and many cadres and people of Hung Nhan commune.

Pham Hong Thai was born on May 14, 1895 in Xuan Nha village, now Hung Nhan commune, Hung Nguyen district, in a family with a tradition of patriotism. From a young age, Pham Hong Thai was nurtured with a spirit of patriotism and compassion for the people. Early on, learning about the thoughts of Phan Boi Chau and other patriots, from a young age, Pham Hong Thai was aware of his responsibility in finding a way to fight for national liberation.

Pham Hong Thai had worked in many factories such as Electricity Plants, Match Plants, Railway Workers, Bac Can Zinc Mines, and Hai Phong Cement Plants to better understand class consciousness, the poverty of enslaved people, and the brutal nature of French colonialism. During his time working at the factories, Pham Hong Thai was an active factor in mobilizing and organizing workers to protest and strike.

Not only working in factories, Pham Hong Thai also returned to his hometown, choosing the Pham family church as a place to discuss with friends and comrades. During this time, comrades Le Thiet Hung, Vuong Thuc Oanh, Le Hong Phong,… often pondered with Pham Hong Thai the immortal poems and prose of Phan Boi Chau about the Russian October Revolution.

Leaders of Hung Nguyen district reviewed the traditions of the land rich in revolutionary traditions, reminding the next generation of the heroic sacrifice of patriot Pham Hong Thai.

In the beginning of the year of Giap Ty (1924), Pham Hong Thai and a number of patriotic young people from Nghe An secretly went abroad, passing through Laos, to Thailand and finally Pham Hong Thai went to China, joined the Vietnam Restoration Association, a patriotic organization of Phan Boi Chau, and then joined the Tam Tam Xa organization.

On June 19, 1924, Pham Hong Thai made the Sa Dien bomb sound, failed to assassinate the Governor General of Indochina Merlin. Although the plan failed, Pham Hong Thai heroically sacrificed, the Sa Dien bomb sound contributed to awakening the patriotism of tens of thousands of compatriots in the country. It is a small swallow, signaling spring.

In a series of activities to commemorate the 120th birthday of martyr Pham Hong Thai, Hung Nguyen district organized an exhibition about his life and career. In the photo, people of Hung Nhan commune visit the exhibition.

Six years after the Sa Dien bombing, the Indochinese Communist Party was born, in which many of Pham Hong Thai's comrades who had previously participated in the Tam Tam Xa organization and the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association became the core members of the Party. Also six years later, in Hung Nguyen - Pham Hong Thai's hometown, the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement broke out, culminating in the demonstration on September 12, 1930. This was an important premise leading to the success of the August Revolution in 1945.

The 120th anniversary of the birth of martyr Pham Hong Thai is an opportunity for the Party Committee, government and people of Nghe An province, Hung Nguyen district as well as Hung Nhan commune to once again remember the contributions of the patriotic revolutionary.
