(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 22, at Nguyen Truong To Secondary School (Hung Trung Commune, Hung Nguyen District), the People's Committee of Hung Nguyen District held a ceremony to commemorate the 145th death anniversary of the patriotic reformer Nguyen Truong To (November 22, 1871 - November 22, 2016).

Before the ceremony, leaders of Hung Nguyen district offered incense and flowers at the tomb of patriotic reformer Nguyen Truong To in Bui Chu village, Hung Trung commune and visited and presented gifts to relatives of patriot Nguyen Truong To, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhan and Mr. Dinh Bat Hoang.

Nguyen Truong To was born in 1828, into a Catholic family in Bui Chu village, now Hung Trung commune, Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province. He was a patriotic Catholic, harmoniously fulfilling his duties as a citizen of the country and a child of God.

He was a great thinker and reformer of our country in the late 19th century. In just 10 years (1862-1871), he sent 58 petitions to the Nguyen Dynasty to propose reforms and modernization of the country in many aspects: politics, economics, education, culture, diplomacy, military, administrative management... With scientific, systematic, practical and dedicated approach, there are issues he mentioned that still retain their value in both theory and practice.
