In 1956, together with the army and people of the whole country, the army and people of Nghi Dong commune participated in the resistance war against the US to save the country. The commune had 6 mothers who were awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, 74 martyrs, and 95 wounded and sick soldiers. Entering the period of renovation, Nghi Dong commune made efforts to join hands to build an increasingly innovative homeland. Up to now, the commune has achieved 14/19 new rural criteria and strives to complete the new rural construction criteria by 2017.
