Celebrating 60 years of establishment and development of the Faculty of Mathematics - Mathematics Department, Vinh University

On the morning of September 20, the Faculty of Mathematics - Department of Mathematics of Vinh University held a ceremony to celebrate its 60th anniversary of establishment and development. Attending were Prof. Dr. Thai Van Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Education and Training; leaders of Vinh University and former teachers who were Heads of the Faculty through the periods and many former staff, lecturers and students of the Faculty.

The predecessor of the Faculty of Mathematics - Mathematics Department of Vinh University was the Mathematics - Physics Department, which was established and operated at the same time as the establishment of Vinh Pedagogical University Branch in 1959. The teaching staff at that time was only 7 people. During the 60 years of construction and development with the following names: Mathematics - Physics Department, Faculty of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics - Information Technology, Faculty of Mathematics Education, now the Faculty of Mathematics - Institute of Natural Education. Up to now, the faculty has 175 lecturers of Mathematics and Information Technology; 147 lecturers of other subjects.

Among the teachers who have been teaching at the Faculty of Mathematics - Mathematics Department, there is 1 teacher who was awarded the title of People's Teacher by the State, 25 teachers who were awarded the title of Excellent Teacher by the State; 1 teacher was awarded the First Class Labor Medal and 11 teachers were awarded the Third Class Labor Medal; 4 teachers were awarded the title of Professor and 41 teachers were awarded the title of Associate Professor.

Over the past 60 years, the Faculty of Mathematics - Mathematics Department has trained 6,161 full-time high school teachers, 805 full-time Bachelors of Mathematics, 192 full-time Bachelors of Applied Mathematics and Information Technology, 308 full-time university-level junior high school teachers, 114 college-level junior high school teachers...

Many of them have become prestigious scientists, managers, military officers, political and social activists, etc.

Along with training, the Faculty of Mathematics - Mathematics Department has achieved many outstanding achievements in scientific research.

The Ministry of Education and Training awarded Certificates of Merit to 4 individuals and 1 collective with achievements in the emulation movement "Innovation and creativity in teaching and learning" in the period 2016 - 2020.

Continuing the 60-year tradition of building, developing and growing, in the coming time, the collective of cadres, lecturers, students and pupils of the Mathematics Department will strive to excellently complete their tasks, build and develop the department in the direction of becoming a strong Faculty of Mathematics - Information Technology of the School of Education, Vinh University.

Striving to become a high-quality and prestigious training center for general Mathematics and Information Technology teachers, with many training and scientific research links with universities and research centers in the country, region and the world, worthy of the position of a basic and traditional training unit of the school and firmly moving forward in the new journey.

On this occasion, the Faculty of Mathematics - Mathematics Department launched the "Mathematics Development Scholarship Fund" and awarded scholarships to excellent students from difficult circumstances.
