On behalf of the Lao Ministry of National Defense, Lieutenant General Souvon Luong Boummi, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army, reviewed the glorious tradition of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers helping the Lao revolution from the difficult early years of the resistance war.

With the help of the Vietnamese Volunteer Army, on January 20, 1949, the Lao People's Liberation Army was established, quickly developing its forces, contributing to strengthening the fighting alliance between the two countries' armies.

In addition to directly participating in fighting on the fronts against invaders, the Vietnamese Volunteer Army also helped Laos build resistance bases, coordinated with the Lao army to launch large-scale campaigns and achieved great victories.

Especially in the 1953-1954 Winter-Spring campaign, the Vietnam-Laos coalition eliminated more than 8,000 enemies on the Lao battlefield, liberated a large area of land, shared the fire with the Vietnamese army and people, defeated the French invaders in the final battle at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, which was famous in five continents and shook the world, forcing the French colonialists to sign the Geneva Agreement (July 21, 1954) on Indochina, recognizing the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Lieutenant General Souvon expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their great, invaluable, effective and timely assistance to the Lao people's revolution over the past time.

Lieutenant General Souvon also emphasized: 65 years have passed, but the images of cooperation, standing shoulder to shoulder in the same trench, helping each other, "biting a grain of rice in half, splitting a vegetable in half" of the two countries' armies to gain national independence are still deeply engraved in the memories of the people of the two countries.

Together with the entire Party and people, the Lao People's Army is determined to do its utmost to contribute to fostering the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Laos and Vietnam to continuously and sustainably develop.

On the same day, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office in Laos coordinated with the Lao Army Museum to organize a photo exhibition to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Volunteer Soldiers and Military Experts Working in Laos.
