Phan Bội Châu, whose given name was Phan Văn San and pen name was Sào Nam, was born on December 26, 1867, into a family of humble scholars in Sa Nam village, Đông Liệt commune, Nam Đàn district, Nghệ An province.
From his youth, folk songs and melodies nurtured the fighting spirit in young Phan Boi Chau. Even when he became the head of the San region, a "renowned name in the literary world," that fighting spirit intensified, urging Phan Boi Chau to "cast aside fame and fortune, but repay his debt to the nation."

In his quest to save the country, Phan Boi Chau endured nearly 30 years of hardship and struggle, traversing many places: from North to South Vietnam, Tokyo, Shanghai, Guizhou, Japan, and Thailand…
With a policy of national salvation based on violent means, Phan Bội Châu founded the Duy Tân Society, the Vietnam Restoration Society, and then the Vietnam National Party to gather forces for armed revolutionary struggle and to seek foreign aid.
Among these movements, the one that left the deepest mark was the Dong Du movement. Although unsuccessful, the movement laid the foundation for changes in our country at the beginning of the 20th century; it contributed to training a team of intellectuals ready to embrace the path of the proletarian revolution, and many of them later became key figures in the Vietnamese Revolution such as Le Hong Son, Ho Tung Mau, Vuong Thuc Oanh, Lam Duc Thu, Ho Hoc Lam, Nguyen Duc Cong, Nguyen Thuc Duong…
In particular, this is an important link, a milestone marking the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the fields of culture and education, and to this day, the Dong Du movement still retains its value in the development of the country.

On June 30, 1925, Phan Bội Châu was arrested in Shanghai (China) and brought back to Vietnam by the French colonial authorities. He was tried in the Hanoi Criminal Court and then placed under house arrest in Hue. Even as an old man of Ben Ngu, Phan Bội Châu still harbored deep affection, hope, and faith in the younger generation and in the success of the revolution.
On the morning of October 29, 1940, which was the 29th day of the 9th lunar month of the Year of the Dragon, Uncle Ho breathed his last at his thatched house on Ben Ngu slope (Hue).
Phan Bội Châu was not only a revolutionary, but also a patriotic poet and writer. His poetic legacy is truly immense, with thousands of works in all genres: prose, poetry, rhyming prose, couplets, inscriptions, theatrical scripts, etc., contributing to the richness of Vietnamese literature in the early 20th century.
Phan Bội Châu dedicated his entire life to the national liberation movement. Although his mission to save the country was not accomplished, his life and work shone brightly in the Vietnamese revolutionary firmament of the early 20th century.
