During the recent heat wave, 2,074 hectares of corn and 3,356 hectares of upland rice in Ky Son failed to germinate. This meant that farmers’ crops were delayed by nearly a month. Meanwhile, in previous years, at this time, the rice was in the weeding and care stage and the corn had 5-6 leaves.

To help people continue to sow rice and corn, the District People's Committee has recently allocated budget to support households affected by drought. Mr. Bui Tram - Chairman of the District People's Committee said: based on the statistical data of the communes, the District People's Committee will initially allocate the reserve budget to buy corn seeds to support people to continue sowing, and the current rice seeds are being proactively provided by the people. Although the season is late, the district has directed the communes to propagate to people to sow when the weather is favorable, not to go to the fields to sow on the hottest days.

With the corn and rice areas damaged by the heat, it is estimated that Ky Son had to spend the budget to buy 41 tons of corn seeds, worth about 2 billion VND, and people had to continue to spend hundreds of tons of rice seeds.
