Previously, people in remote areas of Ky Son district could only rely on fish fry provided or brought by traders. Due to long distance transportation, the quality of fish was not guaranteed, causing difficulties for farmers. Faced with this reality, the Ky Son district Agricultural Extension Station has successfully built a model of raising grass carp fry in Bao Thang commune to provide local fry for people.

(Baonghean) -Previously, people in remote areas of Ky Son district could only rely on fish fry provided or brought by traders. Due to long distance transportation, the quality of fish was not guaranteed, causing difficulties for farmers. Faced with this reality, the Ky Son district Agricultural Extension Station has successfully built a model of raising grass carp fry in Bao Thang commune to provide local fry for people.

Through a survey to select a location, the Ky Son District Agricultural Extension Station chose Tha Lang village, Bao Thang commune, to build a model for raising fish fry. This is an area with many streams and for a long time, the local people have known how to dig ponds to raise fish, so it is very convenient for implementing the model. Initially, the agricultural extension station selected a household with a suitable fish pond area to implement the model. During the implementation process, many difficulties were encountered because of the complex mountainous terrain and difficult transportation. Moreover, this was the first time the local people were introduced to the work of raising fish fry.

Mr. Xeo Pho Bun's family in Tha Lang village sold the first batch of fish fry.

However, with the close guidance and supervision of technical staff, along with the diligence of Mr. Moong Pho Chan - the person who implemented the model, the initial results were practical. After 2.5 months, the fish were 8-10 cm in size, and 1 kg of fish weighed from 130 to 150. From this model, local people now have a source of local fish fry for breeding, which is very convenient. Mr. Moong Pho Chan, a resident of Tha Lang village, Bao Thang commune, excitedly said: "We are very grateful to the Party, the State, and the Agricultural Extension Station for showing us how to breed fish fry. I will promote to the people in the village to dig fish ponds to get fish fry from the State to breed, serve their lives, develop the household economy, and help people reduce poverty."

The successful level II fish seed breeding model has helped people in mountainous and remote areas know how to produce quality fish seeds, reduce input costs, and take the initiative in the source of seeds. Previously, to get 1kg of fish seeds, people had to spend from 300,000 to 320,000 VND to buy from traders in the lowlands. Now people only need to spend 120,000 VND to get 1kg of fish seeds, which is both cheap and of guaranteed quality. Mr. Le Cong Tam, Head of the Ky Son District Agricultural Extension Station, said: “The goal of the model is to bring fish seeds to remote areas for breeding, from which we have proposed measures to breed on-site, making it convenient for people to develop aquaculture. If the model is successful, we will replicate it to other remote villages, so that people can improve their meals and have more jobs.”
