Signing of cooperation agreement "Enhancing the voice and participation of ethnic minorities in poverty reduction"

On the afternoon of May 23, in Vinh City, the Provincial People's Council held a signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement on the Project "Strengthening the voice and participation of ethnic minorities in poverty reduction" with CARE International in Vietnam. Ms. Bui Thi Thu Huong - Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council and Mr. Peter Newsum - Director of CARE in Vietnam co-chaired.


The project aims to contribute to poverty reduction for ethnic minorities and improve the capacity of social organizations in Nghe An.

The direct subjects of the project are 500 officials and People's Council delegates at commune, district and provincial levels and 45,000 ethnic minorities in 12 communes (4 pilot communes within 1 year and 8 communes expanded in the second year) in 2 project beneficiary districts: Nghia Dan and Que Phong.


In addition, there are 410,000 other indirect beneficiaries in the province. The project's funding source is 151,325 EUR (equivalent to 199,749 USD). The main partners implementing the project are the Provincial People's Council, CARE International in Vietnam, and the Institute for Socio-Economic and Environmental Research.


The project will be implemented in 2 years, from 2011 to 2013. After the signing ceremony, this morning, May 24, the relevant parties will discuss, plan and agree on project implementation.
