Chess player Van Huy won the Malaysian blitz chess tournament
Maintaining an undefeated record after 11 games, chess player Nguyen Van Huy won the gold medal in blitz chess at the 2014 Malaysia Open Chess Tournament.

Grandmaster Nguyen Van Huy (elo 2519) is the third seed in the blitz chess event at the tournament, after two FIDE Grandmasters Susanto Megaranto (Indonesia, 2557) and teammate Cao Sang (2528).
The Vietnamese player played impressively with a series of eight wins and three draws to be crowned champion. Among the players who were defeated by Van Huy were nine FIDE Grandmasters. The final game was dramatic, with the second-placed opponent Pascua Haridas (Philippines, elo 2389) only half a point behind Van Huy. Under great pressure in the first table, the Hanoi player still managed to get a valuable draw with the number one seed Megaranto to be crowned champion. In the remaining table, Haridas only got half a point after a draw with FIDE Grandmaster Laxman of India.
Previously, in the standard chess event, player Le Tuan Minh (elo 2347) also excellently received a silver medal. Seeded only 32nd in the standard chess event, Tuan Minh maintained an undefeated record after nine standard Swiss games, winning seven points and only trailing champion Zhang Zhong (China, 2608).
At the end of the tournament in Malaysia, three Vietnamese players, Le Tuan Minh, Pham Chuong and Dang Hoang Son, achieved FIDE International Master standards.
The 11th Dato Arthur Tan Malaysia Open took place from September 15 to 21, with the participation of 150 players from 15 countries. The Vietnamese team participated in the tournament with many famous players such as Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Cao Sang, Nguyen Van Huy, Nguyen Anh Dung...
