New technique to cure tooth decay by itself
The dreaded sound of a dental drill could be a thing of the past, thanks to a new treatment for tooth decay being developed by British scientists.
This groundbreaking method has completed the technological part and is in the investment seeking stage. It is expected to be ready for use in the next 3 years.

Unlike the previous method of root canal treatment and filling the cavity with amalgam or composite materials, the new technique called EAER uses a small electric current transmitted into the decayed tooth. This stimulates the activity of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, helping the decayed tooth heal itself.
The procedure also eliminates the need for injections and drilling, meaning patients don’t have to endure any pain or discomfort. In addition to treating cavities, it’s also a way to whiten teeth.
Professor Nigel Pitts, University College London Dental Institute, said: “Our current treatment for tooth decay is not ideal. This new method is not only gentler but also better for the patient’s teeth. It is expected to be at least as effective as the current method.”
Tooth decay is one of the most common health problems worldwide. According to WHO statistics, the prevalence of tooth decay in school-age children is 60-90% and nearly 100% in adults.
Increased concern about oral care has stimulated research and development of pioneering new products and treatment techniques in recent years.
