(Baonghean) -Raising fish in brackish water is of interest to many people. Red snapper is a brackish water fish that brings quite high economic efficiency. However, to raise this fish economically depends on many factors in the farming process, such as: pond conditions, living environment, stocking season, seed source, management and care... To help people understand better and raise this fish more successfully, we would like to recommend the following notes:

Fish pond of Mr. Nguyen Van Duong's household in Nghi Hop Commune - Nghi Loc

* Pond preparation:

Clean pond bottom affects the distribution of fish's ability to catch prey, muddy pond bottoms cause food to sink, affecting the quality and stability of the water environment. For new ponds: After construction, wash with acid 3-5 times, spread lime all over the bottom, and dry for 10-20 days.

- For old ponds: Because after each farming period, the pond bottom accumulates a lot of organic matter, so before releasing fish for the next farming period, the bottom must be treated. Seaweed should be grown alternately between fish farming periods.

- Improve pond bottom with biological products:

+ Use biological products to quickly decompose residual organic matter and dead animals at the bottom of the pond... limiting disease-causing microorganisms.

Kill impurities and cause color:

+ Water taken in is filtered through a fine mesh to prevent unwanted organisms from entering the pond.

+ Kill weeds: Use Saponin 10-15 kg/1000m3 of water.

+ Coloring: Organic fertilizer: Manure 2 tons/ha. Inorganic fertilizer: Urea (46 - 0- 0) 25kg/ha

* Selection and release of fish: Select healthy fish, no deformities, no defects, no signs of disease. Fish are uniform, balanced, no scratches, no slime loss, swim quickly, swim submerged in water in schools. Stocking density: 0.5-1 fish/m2. The appropriate size of fish for commercial farming is 100-150g/fish. After being released from the tank, the fingerlings should be raised in small ponds until they reach the above size, then transferred to commercial ponds.

* Food: Fresh trash fish, washed, chopped (to fit mouth size) and fed directly. Feed 2-3 times a day in the morning, noon and afternoon. The amount of food is 10% of body weight in the first 2 months and gradually decreases to 5% of body weight in the following months.

In addition, to increase resistance, you need to supplement: Vitamin 1.5%, squid oil 4%, minerals 0.5%, soybeans 3%.

* Management: Check the amount of food daily and adjust accordingly to avoid excess food damaging the pond water quality. Maintain the water depth in the pond at a regular level of 1-1.5m. Circulate the water in the pond or cycle the water through the seaweed pond system to increase oxygen and minimize pollution levels.

- Change new water periodically (once a month), each time change no more than 30%.

- Observe and measure physical and chemical indicators periodically.

- Check fish for disease and health status periodically.

- Add biological products periodically after prolonged rains.

* Disease prevention: Apply comprehensive disease prevention methods:

+ Renovate pond according to technical process.

+ Regularly monitor and check the growth rate of fish to adjust the amount of food accordingly, limit excess food that pollutes the water environment, creating favorable conditions for some bacteria, viruses, and parasites that cause disease in fish.

+ Do not feed spoiled or moldy food.

+ Regularly change pond water according to tidal regime, creating a clean environment and increasing dissolved oxygen for fish. During months when the temperature drops, the amount of water in the pond is always kept at > 1.2m of water.

+ Liming: Every 10 days and after rain, apply 2kg lime/100m2 of pond to increase pH and kill bacteria to prevent fish diseases.

* Harvest:

After 10 - 12 months of raising, the fish will reach commercial size and be harvested. It can be partially harvested or harvested in total depending on consumption capacity and consumer demand.
